Sinister Minutes 2:7 brings a fairy godmother gone wrong, a haunted parking lot, and a creaky staircase in the middle of the night.

Do you write out accents phonetically/use eye dialects? Why or why not?

This is something I'm playing with in the WIP. One of my characters speaks with a fairly thick Slavic accent, and I've been dropping a lot of articles out of her dialogue as a result. I suspect that may be changed in revision; her speech does little beyond characterization, and she's sounding more and more like a resident of Frostbite Falls in my head.

Have you ever challenged yourself to write without editing?

I used to edit everything on the fly, revising a word here, a sentence there, before moving on to the next paragraph.

I tried shifting to the "vomit draft" technique because *everybody* said that's how it was supposed to be done.

I hated it.

Today, most plotting happens in my head, and I sometimes use <insert profound word here>, but I also revise some things on the fly.

Like all creative processes, YMMV.

The white poppy won yesterday's race to open, but the peony is making a strong showing this morning.

@youseeatortoise

I just now picked up a copy of Cascade, so my apologies if the answer is obvious after reading it ๐Ÿ™‚

Has the kind of magic you've written about ever been influenced by occurrences IRL that could be attributed to 'supernatural' causes? If so, I'd love to read about an example.

#bloomscrolling Poppy beat out peony today for grandest opening. Tomorrow may see a reversal...

How can we, as adults, get excited about art/creativity again? (credit @SJHoodlet and @Emmacox )

This requires a cultural shift, and we subsist in a culture where too many people strive to be "the best." That degree of competition is nothing short of stifling.

I try to encourage people to suck at something new, to FAFO...because creativity happens right there in the middle. Creative types FA with novel ideas all the time, FO what happens, make a few tweaks, and try again

Who sees your WIP before itโ€™s done?

Nobody but me sees the first draft. I work to fine tune the story chapter by chapter, and those get presented to one or both critique groups. With their feedback, I do a review/revision of the whole thing a few weeks after typing "The End" and then wrangle up a few beta readers. Another review/revision, more feedback integrated, and then I try another round with fresh beta readers.

I need to remember that perfect is the enemy of done.
