we went to the little river today.
we saw flowers and trees, bees and butterflies. a deer disappearing into the wood and sideways shrimps in the water. i brought the hawthorn tree an oatmeal cookie and marvelled at how much blossom it has, how much it’s grown. we got briefly rained on by the sunny grey sky and felt the sands of the riverbank shift beneath our feet.
i stood for a while on a little sandbank, a temporary island that may be gone tomorrow. i felt the water and the world swirl around me, separate as i was, wishing i could stay in that protected place forever. i watched my footprints fill with water when i stepped back onto the bank, and i watched the earth breathe as those footprints emptied and filled, emptied and filled, in an unbroken rhythm that had nothing to do with the ripples on the water or the flow of the river.
if you light a fire today, light it to honour what has been and what remains. light it to protect and purify what is. and light it to kindle the strength you need to fight what comes.
wishing you peace and rest, love and many blessings, today and always.
a beautiful beltane to you all.
