Over 75% of the world’s food crops need pollinators.

Yet, bee populations have dropped globally over recent decades due to:

🔸 habitat loss
🔸 climate change
🔸 excessive use of pesticides

Our fertiliser plan promotes healthier ecosystems, which are essential for bees’ survival.

On this #WorldBeeDay, we urge governments, organisations and citizens to help save these precious creatures.

We need to keep our bees busy and well!

@EUCommission which fertilizers ?

are they oganic-based ?

like fom biogas-plants ?

cycle economy

@EUCommission

While I support this initiative – who doesn't want less pesticides, cleaner waterways, more nature – #WorldBeeDay is about all the other bees, whose numbers are plummeting hand in hand with habitat loss. Honeybees don't need saving; that would be like saying we have to save the birds and we start with the chicken.

@EUCommission

Good to see the EU Commission's move to Mastodon has resulted in the development of excellent memes.

@riggbeck @EUCommission Meh. It's just the LinkedIn meme ham-fistedly shoehorned onto Mastodon.

Political orgs trying to communicate online are hilarious. Can you imagine any other language where they'd go "we don't need a translator, I'll just make similar noises and they'll accept us as one of their own"?

@woe2you @riggbeck @EUCommission

The Mastodon version would be "I installed Linux on this dandelion in my organic permaculture farm and set up a bash script that automatically extracts nectar every 6 hours"

Also, the bee is neurodivergent

@woe2you @riggbeck @EUCommission

it's just a fucking joke

jesus christ people need to fucking relax

@EUCommission If you really mean this, the EC should take action to tighten the laws regarding the use of pesticides. But it seems you're planning the opposite. https://www.pan-europe.info/press-releases/2025/12/eu-commission-retreats-worst-plan-still-opens-door-unlimited-pesticide
EU Commission retreats from worst plan, but still opens the door to unlimited pesticide approvals and weaker protection

Despite strong warnings from scientists and civil society, the European Commission today confirmed its proposal to introduce open‑ended approvals for certain pesticides.

PAN Europe
@onnob @EUCommission This, tbh. The one hand preaches, while the other shakes hands with things like Monsanto.
@EUCommission The right half doesn't describe Mastodon, but LinkedIn.
@realSiegfried @EUCommission No no, the LinkedIn version would have way more AI mention and managerspeak in it :D

@EUCommission

I love the image, but the "excessive use of pesticides" is absolutely something the EU commission could and should be doing something about. Ban glyphosate, please.

@EUCommission On Mastodon, wouldn't the right side simply be:

Bees!

@distinctdipole @EUCommission tagged #bees and alt text.

Or as op posted - no in between 😂

@EUCommission
AND lack of biodiversity due to large fields with one single type of vegetables.
Imagine of eating one single kind of food for your life; that would be a very poor nutritional diet -> not a long life.

@EUCommission I don't get it what Mastodon has to do with bees.

Do you post similar things to suggest facebook, google or instagram are out of touch with reality, too?

Or, 🤔 Since you post it on mastodon, you want to show how you give in to silliness?

This is too goolge for me - , err… meta. 🤯

Hi @mray thanks for the feedback!
We try our best to adapt our content to the platform, and sometimes we like to catch attention with humour.
If you feel this isn't quite the vibe for the Fediverse, we appreciate the input. Keep the comments coming! Is there anything else you'd like to see more or less of on our account?
@EUCommission Wow you missed the point

@EUCommission Words on the one side and Action on the other my dear!

You know what we really do not like here in the Fedi? It’s liars!

EU-Kommission will Pestizide unbefristet zulassen

@EUCommission there is also a very important factor affecting the bee colonies. That is the cloud seeding and other geoengineering tactics used today to "cool down the planet". I belive this is the main factor we should address.

@EUCommission the European commission is memeing on me and I'm not complaining.

Who is responsible for pesticide regulation in the EU?

Hey thanks for the comment, @Spirit! 💜
As for your question: EU regulation passes through our main regulating bodies, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council. That said, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) assesses the safety of pesticide active substances and residues and provides scientific advice that underpins this regulatory process. Learn more here: https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/topics/topic/pesticides
Pesticides

Plant protection products are pesticides that are mainly used to keep crops healthy and prevent them from being destroyed by disease and infestation.

@EUCommission I enjoy (I don't) how the Mastodon comparison is only used here on fediverse.

@The_Universality @EUCommission I'm not sure Mastodon needs more advertisement as "that tech nerd platform" in particular :D (more awareness of it otherwise would be welcome though)
@phl @EUCommission Indeed. It is just a good think to remember that EU being "in favor" for Mastodon is happening only on Mastodon.

Warum gibt es die Meldung, daß die europäische Commission den Bauern helfen will, da die Düngemittel knapp werden???

@GabyB

These: Der BS der Propagandameldungen der Kommission könnte locker den Jahresbedarf an Dünger in der EU decken. /s

@EUCommission

Another great #succesful post in that #flea #circus that is the #EU and the community manager of this account acting as a track manager.

Does the community manager ever heard about the Bayer - Monsanto rigged buying to past approval of the carcinogenic #RoundUp.

Yeah! Your fleas became giants again. 😒

@DBG3D @EUCommission

it's just a joke, relax

always endless, pointless bile under EUCommission's posts

there needs to be a psychological study about it

do you think shouting at this account achieves anything?

it's utterly ineffective. shouting reply guy bile at this account is worthless

and i'm not talking about you specifically, just scroll the entire reply thread, or any reply thread where EUCommission posts

it would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic

There are many things going on, including miserable people and trolls, but I think a lot of people also struggle to understand the nature of the Commission.

On the one hand it's a huge and talented bureaucracy working for the benefit of the people of Europe, on the other hand it's a small diverse group of high ranking appointed politicians, some of whom are incredibly incompetent.

Whoever thinks @EUCommission is a unitary actor will of course think it's wildly hypocritical.
@benroyce @DBG3D

@brekke @EUCommission @DBG3D

"Whoever thinks EUCommission is a unitary actor will of course think it's wildly hypocritical."

right, exactly

and since we know it isn't, any deranged criticism predicated on acting as if the person behind this account stands in for whatever some EU politician says or does, and therefore must be put on putrid bile blast every time they post something cheerful... it's just a study in how much we all despise toxic assholes

Yeah, for sure. But the bureaucrats are also forced to act as though the Commission is a unitary actor even though it isn't, so there is some degree of hypocracy built in to the system. It's arguably for good reason, but nevertheless—I can see why people get confused and frustrated.

Doesn't make it any less insufferable. Thanks for bothering to counter some of it.
@benroyce @EUCommission @DBG3D

@benroyce @EUCommission

Let me manage my anxiety levels as I see fit.

I live in an area in an EU country where Round Up is still used and farmers do not follow the recommendations on its label.

And I live on the coutryside.

@DBG3D @EUCommission

that's certainly a commom mode of social media usage. i'm not sure how useful it is, to you, or anyone else. you pollute our social media space with endless whining, and it's ineffectual

you don't see more effective means to address your concerns? i can think of 3 off the top of my head

but if this is what you want to make of your online posting behavior, so be it. you do whatever you want. we're not your boss

and the cost will be we will judge you for it

@benroyce @EUCommission

If I'm polluting your space you are entitled to block me.

I've tried addressing representatives of my country on the EU, with out a single "Fuck off" as answer.

And I've never found anyone so condescending, overbearing and preposterous as you.

I couldn't care lass that someone so insignificant as you try to judge me.

So Fuck Off.

@EUCommission about the image: i didnt expect funny memes from the european comission account. i love it
Thanks, @Sorro! 💜
Is there anything else you'd like to see more of from our accounts?

@EUCommission Nice try. Whoever is working this account - do you really feel you have to work for some people, who say one thing and do the opposite?

Yes - bees are important. So is the ban on pesticides!

Please go to Uschi, tell her hello from Wolf and ask for suspension from having to publish bullshit!

Sorry for the anger - but this is hypocrisy, and I hate it, if people are doing this, people whose income I pay!

@EUCommission
To start saving pollinators we first need to drop the idea that only bees are pollinators. Then we need to educate about native pollinator conservation and ditch the tunnel vision on honeybees. And then we need to ban pollinator extinction biocides.

@EUCommission
Great info and I also see some action on the biocide industry in the EU! Please continue to use trade policy to force non-EU exporters of food like Canada to do something also. Canada used to have California forcing us into positive action, but that is now gone. Canada needs to be kicked in the ass on environment or will do nothing.
@EUCommission
I fully agree with your proposal. However, you also have a duty to be consistent and to ban pesticides such as glyphosate and neonicotinoids, which pose a direct threat to bees.

@EUCommission
Hah, cool meme! Let's not forget that you're on the Fediverse, though, not just Mastodon. (It's like saying "Send me a hotmail!")

You may even want to look up and possibly adopt the @FediverseSymbol

@kinetix @EUCommission @FediverseSymbol

i think of mastodon and the fediverse as interchangeable terms. i know there are other softwares, but it's not a big deal, it's just a common terminology to say "mastodon" and refer to the fediverse

@benroyce @kinetix @EUCommission @FediverseSymbol

That's probably the best social media post the Commission has ever posted.

🇪🇺 They can rest now. 👍

(as usual some users -- what I shan't name - lack a sense of humour)

@miguelpergamon @kinetix @EUCommission @FediverseSymbol

it's not just some users

there seems to be an entire anti-fanbase of losers who glom onto every post from EUCommission and just haul ass and machine gun the most ultranegative bile

all. the. fucking. time.

it's beyond pathetic. these people have serious fucking issues. what kind of massive losers are these people?

i thought the USA and toxic MAGA shit was bad. jesus fucking christ it's embarrassing

@benroyce @miguelpergamon @kinetix @FediverseSymbol

It's all part of the right wing discourse about the EU: that it is corrupted and ultra woke. See: Brexit.

There are plenty of things to criticize about the EU but, compared to the nonsense coming out of the US, it seems to be working moderately well.

@ParadeGrotesque @miguelpergamon @kinetix @FediverseSymbol

and the dimwit endless endless bile trolls, having destroyed the USA, have moved onto trying to destroy the EU

@benroyce @miguelpergamon @kinetix @FediverseSymbol

I think they will find it a bit harder to attack the EU.

Brexit was a wake up call for a lot of people. With Orban out in Hungary and PiS out in Poland, the EU is slowly recovering.
