Brexit was a wake up call for a lot of people. With Orban out in Hungary and PiS out in Poland, the EU is slowly recovering.

I don't know if you know the local details of UK politics but there's a June 18th election in a ReformUK/Brexit friendly parliamentary seat which is to be contested by former Manchester mayor Andy Burnham as part of a particularly convulted scheme to eventually replace Keir Starmer.
The UK never does anything in a rational way. British history is mainly public relations, murder and theft.

Yes, and Andy Burnham also promised never to make the UK return to the EU.
Because that particular seat is very much pro Brexit, despite all the evidence to the contrary (meaning: that it has been a disaster for the UK).
I hope one day we will have the truth about who financed who during Brexit, but I suspect I'll pass away before the documents are declassified.
