It’s been a weird couple days; I keep running into this talking point that “journalists won’t use Mastodon unless we incentivize engagement farming”.

Meanwhile I’m having a *great* experience here, because I use it to— I dunno— actually talk to people and form relationships?

I reject the premise that mastodon isn’t useful for reporters. I think it’s more accurate that modern news orgs use social media in purely extractive ways.

You might get more reporters that way, but you won’t like them.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say some kind of gatekeeping *is* the solution for the Fediverse to grow. It's already inclusive. Good moderation is the way for it to work.

A surge in new datacenters, each with the power demand of 100,000 households and a cooling water demand of 1,000,000 m³ per year to train AI models on material obtained without consent on hardware now unaffordable to consumers so fascism-adjacent tech billionaires can sell us the idea that any skill is now worthless and in doing so creating the largest economic bubble ever while simultaneously destroying society and environment.

Can I just mention that this whole moon rocket thing is a gigantic waste in every way you look at it? Pollution, money, resources, all wasted, we have no use for the moon. At least not as long as our only actually liveable planet (barely liveable) is going to waste and humanity is still racing towards it’s own demise.
