Just wondering, who keeps an analog clock out on display in your home? I am thinking the older one is, the more likely. Let’s see! Ok to share. #Clock #Time #Analog #Digital
@cobalt123 I have one in a corner, but it's facing toward the wall. I'm just not sure what to do with it...
@alan Ha! Have you had it a long time? We have to have ours prominent in case we have caregivers who have to clock in and out for shifts. If you are ten minutes away from ending a shift, all the sudden you remember all the things you are supposed to do before you left. If I was passing by and noticed a flurry of activity I just knew what the time was.

@cobalt123 Probably on the order of 20 years. Until recently it hung in the bathroom, because that's a place where one often has a time constraint (get to work, a meeting, etc.), isn't wearing a wristwatch, doesn't want to use a phone, and is not wearing glasses.

It has been replaced by a small back-lit digital clock that illuminates on noise, so a clap of the hands tells time. Personally, my watch claims it's waterproof, so I test that and wear it into the shower. ;)

@alan Oh, too funny! We used to have to keep a clock in the bathroom. To remind a certain son that 45 minutes in the bathroom is too long when it’s the only bathroom the family has.

@cobalt123 Ha. My rule would be "You have 25 minutes, after that, I'm popping the door lock and letting someone else in!"

I love deadlines. ;)

@cobalt123 I have a humongous #clock over my sink and a similarly humongous one in my jewelry studio. The one over my pantry doorway is actually a moon phase clock, but the battery is dead. (I should fix that.) All my clocks are analog; I do not like digital clocks. My only exception is my watch and phone, and that's because I don't want to have to put on a pair of glasses to see the time.

@mlanger ha, TWO wall clocks in your kitchen! The one over your sink is just like ours but yours is black! I don’t like digital clocks. Drew used to have a digital alarm clock that had a timer to start up his favorite radio station when the alarm went off.

I saw that as he became more confused at times due to Alzheimer ‘s that he could read the time but not know what that meant. If I put up the large analog clock he could say “7 (fifteen)” or “quarter after 7”easier he still knew what it meant. Now he can’t read a clock at all unless it is exactly at the full hour mark like “7 o’ clock.

I can see why most quick 30 point tests for dementia have the well-known part where someone has to draw a clock and put all the numbers on it. They also earn a point for having the big hand and the little hand correctly. I bet this test has to substitute a new question about time, perhaps 5 years or so from now. It won’t be so universal about analog clocks.

@cobalt123 Back when I had a 9-5 job, I had a clock radio. That was digital. But it was also in the 1980s.🤣

I had a real shock one day when I was in a supermarket and the girl packing bags at the register asked the cashier what time it was. The cashier pointed to the clock that was hanging on the wall right by us. It was an analog clock and the girl couldn't read it. She was a teenager; no apparent cognitive issues. Just never learned to read a clock.🤯

@cobalt123 The funny thing is, when someone asks me what time it is and I read the time on a digital clock, I automatically convert it to analog notation. For example, if it's 10:12 AM, I'll say "it's a quarter past ten." (And oddly, when I dictated that into my iPad, it transcribed it in digital time: 10:15.)
@mlanger Bingo! Me too! I’m so used to saying the time if it’s 7:53 am I’d just say “ten to 7” or “it’s almost 7”.
@cobalt123 Also, I don't like Roman numerals. It isn't easy to find a humongous clock that doesn't have Roman numerals, but I have two of them.😊
@cobalt123 Senior citizen with a couple of analog clocks in service.

@cobalt123

I have two analog clocks, one in the kitchen and the other on my desk. I use them more than I use digital clocks. I'm 73, and that means the analog clock is easier for me to read at a glance.

@joyce @cobalt123 I beat you; I'm 74. We have analogue clocks in the kitchen and the living room. TBH that's mostly because the other people in the house want them. If I were on my own, I'd probably keep he clocks out of inertia.
@robparsons I’m 74 also! Nice to have social media buddies close in age AND having a few like interests. I never figure I’m going to find people who share a lot of interests, or interests most important to me. But I am so thrilled to share any interests here. Thanks for getting in on this thread. Calling out friend Olds. @joyce and @mlanger and @FaithfullJohn
@cobalt123 🙋 battery powered, in the kitchen. I enjoy the look of analog clocks/watches.

@dasparky Yes! I wonder if the youngest adults care very much that an analog clock is on the wall let alone it needs to be personalized with a certain style.

By the way, our conversations here remind me again that my Madtodon version doesn’t keep replies threaded. I think lots of people who have shared their photos and comments are possibly missed.

@cobalt123 I've just bought one to keep in my relaxing area so I'm less likely to look at my phone. According to my son I'm "Old" (GenX).
@troublewithwords That’s a good idea! I don’t like being tethered to using my cellphone. And just wait till you are another 20 years older. My son already believes at 74, Boomer, anything I say must be taken with a grain of salt because I am an Old.
@cobalt123 I'll post a photo later on. We have one, in the kitchen, that my parents have had for about 30+ years.

@PhoenixSerenity And this is the clock, that when your mother passes on, will be given to either you or your brother. I am voting that you get it.

When my grandparents died, all six grandchildren wanted either the antique wall-mounted “Grandfather” clock or the antique monumental table clock with carved dark wood and marble pillars. Doubt any young people would have anything like this.

@cobalt123 My middle brother will probably get it & I'd be happy about that. It'd be an old wall clock that my nephew would love to have in their home. You'll see what I mean, when I post the photo.
@cobalt123
Here is ours by the front door. And yeah, you are right, we are seniors.😄
@GertrudeZane Such a pretty large clock and subtle decoration with most numerals substituted with flowers. I tried really hard to read the note center and just below. All I can see may be “good world”. What does it say? I’m amazed a wall clock is designed so sweetly. Im hoping it is a saying that makes me smile.

@cobalt123

We've got a "ship clock" on the wall. My husband's worked at sea for over 30 years and just had to get himself one. It's pretty and works.

@crcollins oooh this shop clock is beautiful and gleaming.

@cobalt123 We have an analog clock in every room. I don't think we have a digital clock in the house, other than like built into another device where the clock isn't the main purpose...

Even my bedside alarm clock is the Timex that I have had forever. #Clock #Time #Analog .

@paul Oh! Your old Timex as a clock! Grandma had a few Timex, but only older people maybe in their 50’s will remember Timex was the gold standard for being accurate AND being sturdy back in the day. But in my teens having a Timex watch was cool. Remember seeing TV ads for Timex?
@cobalt123 My Timex alarm clock is still ticking and I don't know how many lickings it has taken falling on the floor or being thrown...🤭

@paul @cobalt123

Timex: Takes a licking and keeps on ticking!

Remember that? :) edit obviously you do :)

@leadore 😂 LOL to your edit... 🤭 @cobalt123

@paul @cobalt123

When I saw you said it had taken many lickings 😄

@leadore If there was video of me reading your question, it would have been that dog who suddenly turns his head to the side and ears up... as I reread your reply and mine. lol @cobalt123

@paul

I didn't think of how else it might have been interpreted!

@cobalt123

@paul @leadore LOve this clip! And saved it to share the next time my granddaughter texts me something surprising. LOL

AND, yes my parents finally bought me a watch as a gift since I would be going away to college.

It was “nice” to have“ my Timex but by that age I was eyeing the Bulova watches with the cobalt blue clock faces. Now that I think of it, since no one is likely to bestow a Bulova, maybe I could buy my own.

@paul @leadore As I definitely have strong #ADHD forces working on me I just spent an HOUR suddenly looking for a beautiful cobalt blue face watch I bought myself 4 years ago. Took me a long time and wow all the sorting I just did was desperately needed. But I was hyper focusing for too long. Aargh!

Finally found it and sharing my classic (to me) 2 watches and a mysterious object got time. Anyone know what that is? Heh. I knew window light was likely good to display my timepieces on. So I guess people can also “tell time” by the other things in that photo. Heh.
#Time #Digital #Watch #Music #CDs #DVD #Cassette

@cobalt123 @paul @leadore

If you mean the little hour glass, it's an egg timer

@moriel @paul @leadore BINGO! You are the first and only one who looked closely at my photo! Now for the bonus round, what time does it measure?

@cobalt123 @paul @leadore

I've never used one myself but I think they are one minute

@moriel @cobalt123 @paul @leadore Sorry for the horrible site but I can’t find any other one with this, my favourite of all sand egg timers. I wish I had one… https://www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddrink/cookingschool/1950s-kitchen-egg-timer-made-by-e-kosta/vi-AA1p8bjv

@cobalt123 @paul Having a Timex watch is *still* cool. I'm wearing a Timex Expedition North Titanium on my wrist at this very moment.
@cobalt123 We do AND WITH A SWEEPING 2nd HAND to boot! Take that digital clock loving beeotches!
@Nead @cobalt123 We have mostly analog clocks here! In my radio shed, I have the Russian mechanical clock. Next to two Russian ham radio QSL cards, lol.
@ai6yr @cobalt123 Those are great! See, you can't enjoy a design element with digital. For me it's got have that unique flavor to gain a place on my wall(s).
That barometer is really nice. Something I've been wanting for a long time.

@ai6yr @Nead Holy moly! Is it that all Russian clocks “go backwards???? I saw another person share their wall clock and I’d commented on it being a clock I ‘d never seen before. I would go crazy looking at yours. It tells me how ingrained my concept of time goes with the traditional clocks in the US.

And I love your barometer clock too. We keep 2 outdoors for in our dreadful heat waves and sudden monsoons in Arizona. It’s important portents for us.

@cobalt123 @Nead It is a normal clock (hands move clockwise). That's not a current photo lol.
@Nead You crack me up! “Beeotches” LOL
@cobalt123 I have a twenty-four hour clock set up by my office door (next to a picture of the accelerator at Argonne National Laboratories, if you are curious about the photo).
@dmoonfire these treasures are just priceless! I remember when nerds wanted to have so much detail and time details on their clock or watch. And that photo with the many notes of congratulations written by colleagues is a special keepsake!

@cobalt123 I spent a lot of tim, trying to find 24-hour watches and clocks... it's my thing.

The notes and signatures were to my dad who helped design and maintain the APS ring at Argonne. Next to it is one of his illustrations of the Tomak nuclear reactor he helped design during my early years.

They are both precious to me. :P

@dmoonfire I am thinking you had a very enriched childhood going by your adult interests. Maybe your parents had a very interesting social circle too. Fascinating!

My father also had an important role in the community I grew up in and part of the history for that area near Chicago. I retain many memories that most people would never think about.

@cobalt123

The one in the living room stopped working, so I have it set to the Doomsday Clock time.

We have a working one in the bathroom.

I'm in my fourth quarter century.

https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/

@EricLawton oh wowzer, your clock and your gargoyle and that slip of a very large art print would tell me if I walked in to your home we are likely to be friends. Of course you know we have been very longtime mutuals. 😉
@cobalt123 my wife keeps one. I'd rather it not be there but I'm not losing sleep over it. We're in our early 40s.
@stinerman Bingo! I’m betting around the early 40’s in age, the more likely it is to not have a clock on display at all. Or to display digital time would be more likely IF there is a clock. My son early 40’s could care less if there is a clock. He’s so used to only looking at his cellphone for time.
@cobalt123 We have four: living room, kitchen, garage and my office. One of my ADHD issues is time blindness, and analog clocks help me better conceptualize time passing.
