In Mexico, when someone is too stupid we say "no rebuzna porque no se sabe la tonada" and I think that’s beautiful.
@Migueldeicaza I have a soft spot for the series of “le faltan X para Y”. “ le faltan cinco pal peso. Le faltan sánguches pal picnic.
@adriano oh that’s a new one! I have been away for too long!
@Migueldeicaza well I kind of cheated. I don’t think these are Mexican phrases.
@adriano @Migueldeicaza at lest Cubans and Argentinians use those I can confirm. The one with the sandwich is new to me tho.
@Migueldeicaza @adriano in Spain we use to say "le falta un hervor"
@Migueldeicaza I can make it as far as “they don’t ____ because they don’t know the tune,” which is kind of delightful on its own 😂
@steve in Mexico, donkeys are associated with stupid. People say “that guy is a donkey” which he is dumb. And the name of the noise donkeys make is “rebuzno” :-)

@Migueldeicaza @steve

In Spain donkeys have exactly the same reputation, but I never heard that phrase.

We have another one, especially offensive: "más tonto y no nace".

@jgg @Migueldeicaza @steve

@Migueldeicaza @steve We also use donkeys in this tone in Spain (but not this specific phrase).
@steve @Migueldeicaza I was the same. I learned my Spanish on the "street" and had never heard that verb. I like it!
@Migueldeicaza In the army we used to say, "He's not the tallest tree in the forest, but certainly the thickest".
@rjohnston @Migueldeicaza oh my God my mind is in the gutter, lol.
@RBWells @Migueldeicaza Ha! Thick meaning stupid in this case. Never thought of it the other way.
@rjohnston @Migueldeicaza
@Migueldeicaza la primera vez que lo oigo/leo y mestoy muriendo a carcajadas 🤣 🤣 🤣
@Migueldeicaza or the poetic “no le sube el agua al tinaco”
@Migueldeicaza in Argentina there is one about cribs: "se cayó de la cuna cuando era pequeño"
@jtarrio @Migueldeicaza in Spain we also say “Más tonto y no nace”. Dunno if that’s also used elsewhere.
pescuezo” y todavía me da risa
