@wilbr @hacks4pancakes @wendynather and generally, an asshole who won't be responding to a logical argument anyway.
I too often fail to avoid the "but I'd really like to understand where the fuck you're coming from" time suck, but that's really all it is - a complete waste of time.
I feel so bad for everyone (trans and cis) catching flak from this. The right-wing noise machine kicked into overdrive over this and it's so gross.
Major newspapers coming out with corrections cause they said an athlete was trans when she isn't. Right-wingers uncritically and unapologetically pushing their #weird obsession; attacking someone based on non-specific russian boxing org statements. Wild moment to be alive. Sorry to everyone for whom this hits extra-close to home :heart_trans:
@hacks4pancakes @wendynather The word "dubious" here is, IMO, extremely charitable. 😒
I'd have gone with "disingenuous," myself.
@hacks4pancakes Fox News also made it worse with what they put on video probably live. Tried watching the video on youtube, but got angry and had to stop when the idiot called her a biological man.
On the bright side she now is going to win at least bronze so that is awesome to see.
EDIT: The Algerian lady is going to win at least bronze. :3
@hacks4pancakes Ugh. It's stupid, it's ignorant, and it's wrong.
People vary. Bodies vary. It's gross that people are so concerned about other people's bits. They're women if they say they're women, end of story.
@hacks4pancakes Right? Just believe people when they tell you who they are. It feels simple to me.
(though that might be the neurodiversity talking)
@hacks4pancakes *sigh* I don't know in north America, but sadly, in my country, cybersecurity people aren't the sharpest knives in the kitchen. When I was working in a SOC team, I was baffled by the lack of mind openess there was. That was probably an especially bad team, but still. After just raising the subject of trans-identity without talking of myself, I've "win" some "nice" nickname.
In a more general manner, cybersecurity (still in my country, I don't know in north America) starts to be a crowded field, there is more or less any kind of people in this. But cybersec people are still a majority of white cis male, and they love too much shit posting, when it's not too insulting about themself. I'm not really surprised that some people in our field takes this opportunity to shit post, because it's still not about them.
However, I find this very ironical to be like this just after the CrowdStrike issue, and after all the data breaches we had this last years.
@hacks4pancakes I'm sorry if you felt like I was accusing you of anything, that's not the case ! 😖
I wasn't talking about you, it was about cybersec people in my country (western EU). I know too much of them which will be probably too happy to have a new shitpost subject like this.
By just raising this, you show that you are more open and human than many !

@whereisthespai @hacks4pancakes
Leopards, faces, etc. etc.
But yeah, the ultimate destination here is that very few people in society could ever meet fascism's standards for genetics, appearance, behavior, ideological purity, etc. That's the point. It gives them a ready made excuse for persecuting literally anyone they desire.
They're constantly fed propaganda that they are the in-group, but with just enough hints that they're potentially in the out-group to leave them insecure. And the only way to maintain social credit to stay in the in-group is to keep repeating the bullshit talking points and throw as many of the out-group into the woodchipper as they can.
@whereisthespai @hacks4pancakes
Anyway, a fun thing to read about is the "Association of German National Jews" and a guy named Max Naumann. They thought they could save themselves from the Nazis if only they could prove their patriotism and loyalty through overt fanaticism. You'll be shocked to hear this, but it did not end well for them.
Already hard enough to find a job; now I have to worry about this shit too.
@hacks4pancakes I'm sorry that there are people like this in our community too. It hurts more when it's peers or people you look up to being jerks to yourself, your friends (or family) and/or undoing what you're trying to do to build our community.
There's too many hot takes and not enough care put into choosing words more carefully
