Imagine how hard it would be to find fitting icons for "Shapes" 🤔 #Pages
@markusms What is happening there with the UI overlay?
@raisondetredev @markusms licking glass … no wait… liquid mess… nah…

@nice2meatu @raisondetredev @markusms I believe the portmanteau you’re looking for is #LiquidAss… 💁‍♀️

#shitUI
#shitUX

@raisondetredev @markusms yo they're trying their best give a fella a break

@markusms

What a gruesome UI garbage. Really.

A disgusting mess.

I pledge there will be no menu icons in the new #NeoFinder version!

I have already added code to remove that ugly crap in macOS 26.

#macOS #BugFest #Apple

@cdfinder @markusms
I like iconography. And San Francisco (and SF Symbols) is very beautiful. The problem stems not from the existence of icons, but programmer mistakes. In this case, the icons were probably accidentally inherited. Having no icons would have made more sense.
@libewa @cdfinder @markusms Apple used to have a UI guidance doc that specifically forbade this mess.
@markusms Rounded Rectangle?! Where could they ever find a representation of a rounded rectangle?
@radarskiy you want your rectangles ROUNDED? in THIS economy?

@markusms

I, uh... I didn't know I could find another thing to be genuinely angry about. I thought I was empty.

Guess not.

@markusms Clearly, the circle+square icons stand for “that shape goes into a square hole”.
@markusms this almost feels like malicious compliance with the edict to have an icon for every menu item.
@njpozner @markusms except that this is a case where it would be genuinely useful!
@markusms I just got destroyed with Pages/Numbers/etc and downloaded Libreoffice. It’s a shame it doesn’t have iOS/ipadOS versions, but….
@markusms they already had icons for page- and linebreak, but they aren’t using them?! Come on!

@markusms i wonder if whoever previously created their icons recently told them to pound sand
@rakslice @markusms Creating icons for geometric shapes if of course the hardest artistic challenge ever
@markusms
Not only are this trillion dollar MEGA CORP unable to find icons to suit simple shapes, the "liquid glass" UI is making a right mess of the submenu. What have these utter NUTTERS done???
@markusms Is Apple thinking that people will be paying money for this Studio bundle? I can see what a premium experience it is.

@markusms from "do not use icons for menus, unless they are for shared metaphors like cut, copy, paste" to "projectile vomit icons in your menus".

Also: that liquid glass blob in the sub menu is horrific and hinders the legibility of the icon anyway.

@ebassi @markusms also that’s a huge menu…

@hbons yeah, that's an altogether awful UI; the only way to make it worse would be to make it context sensitive and hide items, just to break any sort of spatial memory in the process…

@markusms

@ebassi @hbons @markusms that white line overlaping icons is by design and not a bug?
@jablkoziemne @ebassi @hbons A bug. I always get this when I take a screenshot of the main menu. Not sure what is causing it or how I can avoid it.
@markusms What a crowded mess that menu is.
@markusms the icon for "callout" should be a spiky speech bubble with an exclamation mark in it

@markusms Come on give them a break. At least every single entry (EXEPT ONE!!!) has an icon. Why so negative. Think of that awesome achievement. (fuck "EndNote Citation" that entry had it coming for years, I guess)

😂

@markusms
"That's right, it goes into the square hole"
@markusms and with all the icons being the same or irrelevant, they're just completely useless (tonsky.me/blog/tahoe-icons/ good read)
