Turd Riech Survivor (so far)NO KING. Don’t blame me. I voted for Harris.

This seems to be pretty darned good on the face of it. But how can my eye focus on text in the lens plane?

The local dance academy refused my application. They said I couldn’t just waltz in and expect to be admitted.

If all you do in your tech career is:

1. When something is slow, you look carefully at the output of a profiler or a query plan & make measured suggestions about what to improve;

2. When something breaks badly, you gently but insistently ask what & why until you truly know, then the next time similar work is needed you bring up how to avoid doing what broke last time; and

3. When someone lacks info, you make them feel good for learning instead of bad for not knowing;

You will do good work.

Could we please go back to the version of the internet patched together by chewing gum and goodwill;

the domain of the well-meaning, Aloha shirt-clad, neck-bearded hippie;

the time of the lady poet-engineer who wrote spanning tree protocols and prose to match them;

where the only thing you had to do to connect to other humans was to be "capable of sending and receiving packets";

where we share spare GPU cycles to search for extra-terrestrial life or to run HPC workloads for curing cancer;

where the internet was wild and unstructured and embryonic and so full of potential and life and --- I'm not sure - vectors? paths? possibilities?

At which fork or trunk or change did the current slop-enshitti-net emerge?

@davey_cakes What's the difference between Windows and a race car?

The race car only crashes once.

"Bad Day at Black Rock" is a putative western, made in 1955, but the genre is just a wrapper around a pretty good story. It starts off looking like 1955 western schtick but slowly unfolds into a sensitive and pretty high-minded drama. I'm glad of the accident that led me to watch it.
This man’s openness with his struggle means a lot to me. #tumor https://vimeo.com/1165456132
