so I rebooted my #Linux laptop after a software update last night & it shat itself and kernel panicked on boot… 🤔
…because /boot was full 🤦♀️
so in… ⚹checks notes⚹ …2026 there’s no pre-flight check that confirms enough space on /boot to write the new initramfs, etc., before just YOLOing it and crapping out? and no auto-rollback to the previous kernel that’s already sitting there ready to be loaded? 🤪 #ThisIsFineDotGIF 🤪
yes, sure, I’m able to recover from this sort of shitfuckery (I’m sure most of y’all are too) – that’s not the point. non-computer-touchers are never gonna use Linux if they even occasionally have to be able to boot into a recovery session (or boot from a liveDVD) & fuck around in the terminal sudo rm-ing stuff to fix it (especially as they’ll likely be just trying random shit from online posts and they don’t have sufficient knowledge to work out what’s actually the right fix for their problem nor how to tweak as required to their particular context) #CatMashingKeyboardDotGIF
#YearOfLinuxOnTheDesktop is never gonna happen while this sort of thing is a regular part of the “user experience” 😕
