Playing the “Blade Runner” score in Apple Music on iOS 26 and —— OH GOD WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON
Settings > Apps > Music > Animated Art > Off
@tvaziri I have actually liked the animated art. Until now.
@Moltz @tvaziri that much motion, and especially the mouth, is crossing a huge line.
@Moltz same
@tvaziri @Moltz Yes, previous to this one, all the animated art I’ve seen was clearly done in conjunction with the artist
(turn on sarcasm voice) thank you so much for bringing this nightmare fuel to my attention

@tvaziri

Settings > Apps > Music > Terrible AI Bullshit Nightmare Fuel > Off

@tvaziri ohhh. creepy
@inlovewithpda @tvaziri that is unpleasantly creepy, but I still appreciate the reminder to replay this classic (I played the CD and AAC rips of the disc hundreds of times in prior decades).

@tvaziri Settings > Apps > Music > Turn off “Animated Art”

It’s a sanity saver. They are almost all bad.

@agiletortoise @tvaziri Huzzah for me not upgrading my iPhone 14 Pro to an AI capable model. Doesn’t exist for me. Woot!
@gedeonm @agiletortoise @tvaziri Once again, as with so many of these "features", I'm forced to ask: who exactly did they think would want this?

@gedeonm you don’t have animated album art as an option? I have a 13 mini test device that it works on, and it even shows the new full screen album art on the lock screen that was added in 26.

@agiletortoise @tvaziri

@victor @agiletortoise @tvaziri Oh I see. I didn’t scroll down far enough in Settings. Yep, it’s there. Turned it off now, thanks!
@gedeonm @agiletortoise @tvaziri Yeah, this is definitely not using local AI, these are record label-submitted animations. Blame the rightsholders for making bad animated art, not Apple for giving artists the option of submitting animated art.
@stillmoms @agiletortoise @tvaziri Then oh yeah, I blame them cause this is bad.
@agiletortoise @tvaziri The only one I’ve seen I actually thought was good was in Moana 2 they gently animate the ocean. Certainly an overall net loss.
@agiletortoise @tvaziri Unrelatedly, when the thumbnail for this image popped up before I realized the context I thought it was another example of how bad liquid glass is.
@agiletortoise oh thank you! thankfully most of the music i listen to doesn’t have this anyway, but when i do see it, it’s almost always done poorly.
@agiletortoise is there an analog for the Spotify app?

@tvaziri

Artists specifically design most record covers as stills, why animate something not designed to be animated?

@tvaziri That’s disturbing. Generative AI getting everything wrong (as intended).
@tvaziri Please no. Is there more of this crap in Apple Music now? Can you turn it off??
@Bene This has been in Apple Music for quite a few years. I believe at least four.
@jarhill0 Really? I never saw it. However, it can be turned off. Phew
@tvaziri JFC what the hell is this (can confirm on Apple Music in Ireland too, so this shit has gone global) this is horrific, absolutely nobody wants this.
@tvaziri Looks like a YouTube thumbnail.
@tvaziri AI - I hate you with a passion.
Let artists be artists.
Use AI to benefit health care, for example.
Leave these art posters alone!
@tvaziri No, seriously, that's fucking horrifying 😱what goddamn alien thinks this is a good idea!?
@tvaziri it happens for me on iOS 18 as well 🤢
@tvaziri I wish you could turn this off.
@tvaziri That Harrison Ford looks like Pablo Francisco as Harrison Ford.
@tvaziri @schwa Is that the same thing where lots of album art has unexpected animations now? I don’t have AI-enabled devices but I get things like this.

@tvaziri Do Androids Dream of AI Slop?

Also, I hated this movie when it was called A Scanner Darkly.

@tvaziri what the hell? Why? How was this allowed to ship? What would success even look like for this feature? jfc this is embarrassing.
@tvaziri what… is he saying?
@tvaziri Seems like the apple store wants to eat your battery even faster by playing AI motion video!

@tvaziri 🤢🤮

We need more of Apple’s people to leave the company.

@freediverx I know you don’t care but Apple didn’t do that. It was done by the label.

@ankkuli
I actually do care. Are they doing this everywhere their album art is displayed or only with Apple Music? Did Apple collaborate in its creation?

I long for the days when Apple was worth defending.

@tvaziri Definitely triggering a positive on a Voight-Kampff test.

@tvaziri full screen album art has been available since like iOS 17 and animated art has been available by like iOS 18

It has to be uploaded by the artist

In cases like this, usually studios will go an update their album covers with it

I think it’s neat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@tvaziri it’s more likely that, if this were done by AI, it was done by the studio, not Apple
@tvaziri So, *that's* what it's like when the mescaline kicks in ...
@tvaziri Oh dear god that's awful.
@tvaziri I have been pretty meh on the animated artwork so far, as it has been pretty low-key. But this is so horrible that I need to banish it from my devises.
@tvaziri kinda feel like this is far more a "record labels love AI slop and have access to show animated art" than a "Apple allows animations" problem
