Experiment - The United States of Greedhttps://theunitedstatesofgreed.com/

Day 1467.

We made it through the winter. Armed Forces of Ukraine stand, and Russians failed to break us - again.

The world is fighting more wars, Russian invasion unleashed enormous security crisis. It all boils down to the will of ordinary people who shape history.

We stand.

Last night I went to a 70th birthday party and ended up sitting next to Frank.

Frank used to work as a computer programmer, because this was the 1970s to 90s and people had normal job titles that described real things, instead of "full stack orchestration engineer" or "solutions architect".

Anyway Frank's employer was the Victorian Attorney General's department. He wrote, updated and maintained in-house software for managing the court system, trial documentation managements and so on using low level languages.

The point of this post is that there was nothing special about this period of history that made it possible for government departments to write and maintain their own software to solve their own problems then but not now.

The complete lack of any in-house capacity to do this kind of thing is a political choice. Frank is a reminder of that.

This is also humiliating for Russia — not only have their technology proven to be completely ineffective against latest-generation stealth fighters, they are not able to come to the aid of a supposed “ally” as they’re themselves pinned & trying to survive in Ukraine.
Putting geopolitics aside for a moment, I think it is *extremely important* to realise that the US & IDF forces seem to have Air Superiority over Iran, and close to Air Supremacy. It wasn’t a certainty a few months ago — nobody could really know how F35s would actually perform in real combat facing Russian air defence systems.
This is basically a checkmate situation — you just have to slowly neutralise mobile missile launchers as they inevitably reveal their locations.
Testing help for NetNewsWire 7.0.1 beta needed — runs on macOS 15: https://netnewswire.blog/2026/02/27/testing-help-for-netnewswire-beta.html
NetNewsWire - Testing help for NetNewsWire 7.0.1 beta needed — runs on macOS 15

NetNewsWire 7.0 required macOS 26, but now we’re working on making it compatible with macOS 15. This latest beta — either do a check-for-updates or download it manually to get it — runs on macOS 15. So far we’ve found just a couple cosmetic glitches, but we’d like to do a lot more testing than just a few quick looks around. We appreciate all the help! You can report bugs on the bug tracker or on the Discourse forum topic for this beta.

I did make it, just in time. What a show!

#DreamTheater #Budokan #Tokyo

I got sad enough about missing the concert that I’ve devised a plot to fly to Japan on Wednesday to see them at the Budokan and then fly back the next day.

Wish me luck, because getting from Narita Airport to there in time is going to be a scramble 😅

Also the forecast says it’ll be freezing and raining.

Twilight with Moon and Planets
Image Credit & Copyright: Tunc Tezel (TWAN)

Explanation: Only two days after the February New Moon's annular eclipse of the Sun, a slender lunar crescent poses above the western horizon after sunset in this wintry twilight skyscape. Its nightside faintly illuminated by earthshine, the young Moon is joined by three bright planets in the mostly clear, early evening skies above the village of Kirazli, Turkiye. Inner planet Venus appears closest to the horizon. Near the beginning of its 2026 performance as planet Earth's evening star, brilliant Venus is seen through the warm sunset glare near picture center. Straight above Venus, innermost planet Mercury is easy to spot as it stands remarkably high above the horizon even as the twilight sky is growing dark. Outer planet Saturn, most distant of the naked-eye planets, is found just left of the Moon's sunlit crescent.

@palmin Hi there!

Just a note re FTP Files: if I upload a file using the Shortcuts action and the file already exists, and the action is set to “Fail” if the file already exists, it seems this crashes the helper app. Shortcuts says either:

“Couldn't communicate with a helper application.”

or

“The action “Upload to FTP” could not run because the “FTP” app quit unexpectedly.“

It appears the helper app is actually crashing if the file exists and the action is set to “Fail”.

feel this way

One last photo at Kasuga-taisha 春日大社 before I started walking back to the train station, via the backstreets, across the painted manhole covers of deer and trees and past a few mysterious BNE WATER ORG stickers that were briefly a source of entertainment for some.
