@hotdogsladies I just want you to know that I knew who The Great Gildersleeve was from the moment you referenced him on RotL this week because (although I’m only 41) I grew up listening to that and shows like it thanks to my local NPR station playing several hours of them every Sunday night. So I have an unusually large repertoire of 30s–50s radio references for a Millennial.

@caseyliss @atpfm I had the exact same problem as you with my old Carlinkit wireless CarPlay dongle. Mine was very old, and as soon as I switched over to the iPhone Air I started losing connection over and over. Thought maybe the cable was dying, but I did exactly what you were thinking of doing and bought a much newer one (the @marcoarment solution!) and have had no problems since. Maybe a quirk of the Apple N1 WiFi/BT chip?

@atpfm Listening to ATP Overtime this week immediately called to mind the idea of “subvocalizing” from the Ender’s Game. In later books, Ender communicates with the (AI? Alien consciousness he saved from the world of the buggers? I forget, haven’t read in ages) other consciousness in his head by making the muscle movements of talking but not actually making sound. The book even acknowledges how it complicates his relationships with other flesh and blood people in his life.

Happy birthday to Sigur Rós’ “Takk…”, released this day in 2005. A real fixture of my late/post-college music listening life and still a very enjoyable listen today.

@atpfm Just in case @caseyliss or @siracusa haven't messed with it, if @marcoarment is going to start from scratch with Docker, I highly recommend using https://orbstack.dev as your Docker environment. It has some niceties: more Mac feel, much better DNS functionality for machines, automatic HTTPS proxying for web services running in containers (with certificate management) and it's lighter weight than Microsoft's Docker Desktop. Love using it for my work, y'all might enjoy it too.
