What are your favourite genres{of media} to read{consume}?

I prefer futuristic settings & have a strong distaste for most fantasy.
I read it but I doesn't stick that much with me. Exceptions like Terry Pratchett's Discworld exist.

I love SciFi, Space Opera (with a big SciFi Element like Mass Effect & less Space Fantasy like Star Wars).
Cyberpunk, Dystopian, Utopian stuff, a bit Grim Dark & some HFY* as long as the Aliens aren't to stupidly portrait to basically survive in ANY reality, seriously some portraits of Aliens are so dumbed down you start to doubt, that they couldn't breath, if their life would depend on it & of course Humans who know how to breath are so bad Ash overpowered mother lucky maker because of this & so unique in the galaxy... Just don't.

LGBTQIA+ Romance/Kinky stuff are also a favorite of mine especially with a lesbian focus (others not excluded, gender expression over assigned gender**).

Oh & Psychological/Body horror.

Little Bugger seems to be moody. Can't tell if it's a dampener problem or that the space surrounding us is just unhappy with ships tearing apart it's structure to breach into the sublayer.

Is there anything unusual in your MC’s home?

How do you define that in a SciFi setting?

Kira, owns lot of physical media that she stores in her house.
The house is quite empty (it was meant for 5+ people after all) and she basically lives in a sort of apartment which would be considered 2 rooms today around 50 cubic meters.

Arkham, not really in her home even if it is her house and she owns the furniture etc, a complete restaurant equipment.

Ash... Ash lives in outer space as outside as it can get because even outside of atmosphere so "in her home" we find the entire universe, such drawers really get completely absurd in case of 24. Century intelligent star ships...

What signals to your SC that it’s autumn?

The Terran calendar. Every planet has seasonal shifts as long it's not tidally locked to its star, but the effects differ widely. From the Terran homeworld Terra, to the Somwhar homeworld Khalil, Rim World's Like Eodin with its mostly human population or Asza prime the Asza'Ni homeworld, each planet has a similar cycle to what Terra has which some resemblance of 2-32 seasons, same goes for the 1.000. of other planets that can support life. Even non similar worlds that more resemble Venus have seasons, when the sulfur gets smelling more like sulfur & the acid rain erodes everything that isn't molten in the oven like atmosphere. Between the stars only slow traveling ships simulate seasonal changes & not to mention that every species or society has different names for it. So if you look for autumn you might find it on the calendar of Terra.

Is there any mythology around the afterlife in your world?

The Children of Khalit, also known as the Somwhar, believe that they join their species ancestors if they lived an honorable live.
Khalit being the mother who brought them to life, their homeworld, the Asza'ni call them the Khali'ni for that reason, while the Somwhar insist that the Name of Khalit must be spoken entirely.
The afterlife is portrait as a never ending party of hunting, arts, as an eternal dance & enjoying live with their "parents." Between Khalit, also called Mother Khalil at times, Khalil is the language the Somwhar speak & it's told that she taught them how to speak, their father or seeder, basically the sun & the guardian, the somber ex partner of Khalit who now watches her child's, wiping away tears of sorrow & joy, from afar as their sworn protector, giver of water & peace, the moon of Khalit.

What does your MC think of when autumn comes to mind?

So far that hasn't crossed my mind, mostly because the crew hangs onboard the ship & autumn, as we know it, is a thing that doesn't really exists anymore on Terra. Their are similar seasons elsewhere and it still exist in the calendar, but the damage to Terras ecosystem was quite severe.

On some uninhabitable planets it might be the time where they get space radiation blasted the most.

Tell us about your MC’s morning routine.

Kira on duty/board is very different from Kira not on duty/board.

Kira on board or duty, usually wakes up 2 hours before her shift begins 15-5 minutes before the alarm clock goes of if not something went wrong. She wakes up instantly and very abruptly. Stretching and yawning she grabs her Water bottle and empties it (only 250ml). She grabs her cloth from a nearby flat surface or from the drawers next to her bed taking a 3 4 8 shower (15 minutes, 3 getting wet, 4 soaping up, 8 washing away the foam). Dries her Body, grabs her shoulder resting hair dryer, like a todays neck fan but way more powerful. She "steps" into her uniform, putting it on in a very smooth looking way while brushing her teeth. She than punches her boxing bag before going for a quick jog through the ship. Which starts & ends at her cabine. Breakfast is a big cup of the unrefined enzyme printer liquid, after the➡️

cup she gets a second and does left over paperwork or waits til 15 minutes prior to her shift and starts walking towards the bridge arriving there in 4-10 minutes depending of other circumstances.

At home/not on duty she never uses an alarm & prefers to wake to the first morning sun, gently opening her eyes and getting up in a sort of slow motion, grabbing a sip of water, getting into her "bathrobe" checking mail while drinking a coffee or tea from the timer controlled machine in the kitchen. She takes her time breakfasting something solid, showering, brushing her teeth afterwards, while reading the news, she than meditates or does some yoga like movements.
If she doesn't have nightmares that it's less relaxed and more disturbed looking/erratic.

And since I don't want to clutter the TL to much I spare Arkham and Ash at this point. And I'm also to tired to do so.😅

Tell us about your MC’s nighttime routine as well.

Same with yesterday answer I skip Arkham and Ash.

Kira: as soon as it is sleeping time Kira stops her after shift duties (mostly "paperwork") slips out of her uniform, puts it on a flat surface (if she plans to wear it another day) or gives it into the cleaning chute.

She prefers to sleep in underwear while on board, but she has a set that is her sleeping set, she than puts on. Giving her day set into the cleaning chute. Mentally checking what she has to care about in the morning before her shift begins (if any paperwork was left etc). She than thinks about a white or a black wall, at times a gray one and falls asleep.

Your MC or SC meets a vampire. What do they do?

Outside of a costume party?
As long the person isn't completely duun, drenched in blood or hostile towards anyone/thing ignore them. The Union alone is made from 72 different species, the Rim has a bunch of subspecies, non Union-member species. Could be some weird fellow from Eodin (Mondira's home planet). Some people there are very unique in that they take pride in the weirdest body modifications, such people exist everywhere but Eodin has some of the most unique "self presentation artists." Vampirism isn't even close to the weirdest request some Eosin (Eodin's society members) have seen as a request on sex worker request boards.
At the same time the worst in Eosin society that could happen to "a real vampire" that they capture them & bring them into a genetic research laboratory or sell them to a cosmetics lab testing new UV protection.

Does your universe have any autumnal traditions?

Only on planets that are suitable for life that have a certain population in an advanced enough level.
Also this is mostly done by humanoid creatures with a level of sapience.
One associated member of the Union is a sentient plant* species, they of course have an Autumn or sort of an Autumn on their planet, since it's does what most planets do, rotates around itself while running around it's star, but for the plant species this isn't a big thing it's just a time where they begin to prepare for hibernation. This fact makes them especially vulnerable to outside manipulation which is why the Union has a permanent presence at this unique planet

*The term plant has to applied loosely here, they are basically a weird mix of animals, plants and fungi that combines to a species unique compared to everything else.

Put together a “paranormal investigation team” using your characters. Who’s doing what?

Well since paranormal isn't a thing the crew will most likely send one of the Groundhog units. So 5 crew members with weapons and scanners able to locate a single AAA battery in a 10 KM radius, so they would not Scooby-Dooing around but more likely look like a SWAT team reanacting Star Trek scanning and maybe aiming at or shooting stuff like in Stargate.

This took me around an hour just for a darn answer & really unnerved* me.... so since it's more like a SWAT team nobody outside knows who the team members are...

How well does your MC cope with pain, or are they terrible at it?

Kira
Mental: Well enough to function and not completely self sabotage.
Body: she has been through things and some left deep scars, some are even sting from time to time. She manages without painkillers tho.

Arkham
Mental: Carries her package, learns to live with it.
Body: highly sensitive skin and nervous system. Sand under her bare foot feels like caltrops, certain materials irritate her skin so much that it turns dark red and burn like some one grinded your skin on an asphalt road and now tries to clean it with vinegar.
Skin to skin contact can lead to a burning sensations
She decided to take medicine to calm her reactions to most materials and touches, thankfully it's highly effective.

Ashlei is an AI of an Spaceship her perception is completely different from ours and only Kira Starts to learn what this exactly means.

Have you ever frightened yourself while writing a scary scene? If so, what was it about?

No I seem to have a certain talent with words that seem to work well for horror and erotica, and I am guilty of feeling aroused by my own fictional works, I am also guilty of crying if I do something emotional moving with my characters. For horror... Horror is best served cold.
This I get more quiet and precise.
It's like cutting out an organ for later Transplantation. You could just us a bowl sized soup spoon and lever it out of the patient or you focus, use precision cuts and just keep them alive (could be one of the kidneys as an example) I'm such cases it's clearly better to be cold and concentrated. And same goes with horror.

Kira: Proud of being what?
A Terran? A morally superior ethnicity to humans? Not really Terran history is a tragedy and being Terran means being a survivor. Yet I wasn't part of that, it happened roughly 150-200 years ago. Proud of being in my position? No I worked hard for that & had enough luck to not die. Even if I sometimes wish it wasn't this way.
Being still here? Partly I think it was more luck thany ability.
Protecting the innocent from being slaughtered by an alien aggressor?Partly maybe, I am good at what I'm doing. Shooting creatures should always be the last resort. And lives shouldn't be traded so easily regardless of whom.
Being liked by others? I'm thankful for that."

If your MC went to a costume party, what would they dress up as?

Kira: she has a Faible for 'old stuff' and thanks to her library of articles about the 20-23 century and an impressive library of digital licenses she owns, she just can produce what ever she wants at a Synthesizer (not the music instrument, advanced material construction 3D printing) probably like a soldier from any SciFi story of the past, she pretty much loves the Armor of Samus Aran from the Metroid Series. Rediscovered around 50 years ago, only a few copies survived into the future and it took great effort to restore them and than explain to some people that this are not an accurate representations of actual events or predictions. Most got it but some belive everything and have questionable judging abilities.
Kira would prefer a hand crafted armor for such cases but she simply isn't a good cosplay crafter.

If you loose your Holo it's bad enough but in a NIN Drama that Holo has some high security codes of a doomsday machine & wounds a pet of a king on a Rim world & threatens to destroy entire societies six planets away.
The Fans say this is an overdrawn picture. Arkham just watches them without added emotional track, usually. (The NIN can transmit data to the brain so NIN entertainment has often extras like memories of the protagonist, real touch in erotica, First Person Shooters aren't that funny anymore if you get shot & feel 'real' pain so games rarely do this*). So Arkham would probably go with some Bikini or otherwise loose clothes from a character she likes.

as any regular shit AI application, but since her Body the Ghoz'Tarc is a ship with stealth capabilities, which include Holographic projection (if the shields aren't up) & chameleon hull abilities, she can present as a lot of things. So she would probably 'go' as some ship from historical SciFi (a lot of shows and stories survived thanks to the crazy length some fans went to protect their physical collections). Like the Millennium Falcon (a lot of black chameleon ability and distorted projection necessary do to its smaller size),
the Enterprise D (way bigger),
the Normandy (~same size in case of the SR2) or even sailing ships like the Black Pearl, HMS Bounty etc.

Yes a 178 meter long space ship (180 depending on how you measure) wouldn't dance on a costume party but imagine this: on the height of the party a flying sailing ship swooshes over your heads.

What superstitions pertaining to the dead exist in-universe for your WIP?

Supestition is not entirely dead, the same is true for the old religious ways (which we know about today). Superstitions are less often but still exist and different Alien Species have their own.
Ghost ships, zombies, space monsters all such stuff exists as stories & thus also have people believing them to a degree.
Interestingly Humans (from the Rim) are more superstitious than Terrans (related to Terra after the raise of Gaja Unika & Terra Unika).
This might be because the Rims Humans are a more not unified bunch of people.
Somwhar have some superstitions against Terran Cats (so would you if you find a tiny four leg human domesticated by an alien species) and some of them adopted some of the Human/Terran superstition about cats being otherworldly and connected to the dead somehow.
In general people are people.

What are your favorite chilling scenarios to write, and how are you able to accomplish this? Through setting, emotion, dialogue, and / or buildup?

Unexpected ones like right now.
Think about a beautiful tree, winter, people laughing, snow, the cold air in you lungs and on your skin, joy, the scent of hot wine, cinnamon, gingerbread and suddenly you hear it, it starts like a hum, the gentle whistle of some, it spreads like an infection, coming from every corner, out of every mouth.

This awful gods forsaken sound, screeching inside your brain, peeling away your sanity, torturing you to the point that you want to pierce your eardrums with something pointy, so the pain is a different one. And it won't stop, it just never stops and even if it stopped for a time... It comes back every freaking time.

Which of your characters has the backstory that was your favourite to create?

I can not choose. Backstorys happen to me. They manifest rapidly with various degrees of depth.
Give me a stupid idea for a Character concept and I will 'summon' something out of thin air.
I have played several dozens of RPG games including Superheroes like Marvel, DC, Image, plenty of others.
Dead Spys, thieves, rogues, inquisitors, edge runners, Star Trek Characters, Vampires, Vampire Hunters, Barbarians, Mages, Paladins, Fighters, and that's only the PNP RPGs...
Over several Skyrim versions I played 49 Dovakins. Fallout 3, NV, 4 and 76 have so many freaking vault dwellers I can't count, CP2077 has around 9 V.'s. Each of them with at least one page of Backstory.
The Ghoz'Tarc crew has at least 25 of its 40 members roughly outlined.
Not to mention historical figures in Star Ryde.
Their counterparts for Star Tyde (the surfer cruise parallel universe).
I simply can't say.

AI programming to create a husk of a loved one, that is build to sound like them, is a toxic betrayal, aimed at vulnerability of people that lost someone & luckily outlawed in the Union. The dead are dead and part of grieving is to learn to keep the memories and plant them around the hole they left in your heart."

Is there a noticeable change in the seasons in your WIP’s universe?

This depends heavily of planets and the ecosystems that evolved their (if one evolved, the number of dead rocks and gaseous bubbles is significantly higher than habitable rocks*).
Different planets have different biomranges, they have different distances to their stars, their stars are different, their rotation might differ significantly from what we now from today's Earth. So yeah it noticable at most places.

*There are still some dead rocks that are inhabited by very bold people but they often life out of their greenhouses while the rest of the rock is just dead as ever before.

Have you ever created a SC that you later wished was the MC?

I have constantly reused background additions to my RPG characters as a playable character in different settings.

Some might even bleed into my own SciFi universe in a form...

I have several minor appearances of seemingly unimportant characters that are ment to show up later some time if I expand the universe deeper of my WIP of Star Ryde.

Arkham and Ashlei are MC in my mind but they a bit like tertiary and secondary MC's. I want to focus on them while Kira is like the red string through the timeline.
Anika never really was ment to show up as a living character, nor was her mother. Yet here they are in the WIP and even having allocated arcs to themselves...

A lot of my Video game characters have ties to each other by some means.

Let's call it the Anna Saultron Extended Multiverse or A.S.E.M.😬

Their are rarely zippers involved for good quality costumes my characters would wear & Halloween didn't survive to the 24. Century.
But for the sake of it.
Kira would probably run around as a character from some ancient SciFi since she has a certain fondness of them. So expect her to run around in an Original 1:1 Replica of a Season 1 Star Trek TNG Uniform, cursing the inability to walk more than five steps before it rubs off skin at certain areas. Or as Commander Shepard from Mass Effect. Darth Vader or so. Since transformation Helmets are a usual thing in Star Ryde she wouldn't have a y breathing issues. Others wouldn't think to much of it but break her free once they know that she is stuck in that outfit at least on board or in any Union/Alliance facilities.

Arkham wouldn't wear much special. In the beginning she would never even attempt to join a costume party for some social reasons but also for her hyper sensitivity. Her usual solution is to wear as much bare skin as possible.
So she probably would use something like her Bathrobe out of hyper anti allergic material, which would still be a gamble for her skin, and pull of a cheap Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars after searching through Kiras ancient Space themed movies.
Or maybe if she finds the right material as 7 of 9 from Star Trek Voyager. So people would assume some sort of movie or NIN video shot of low budget (otherwise like Kira)

Ashlei or more her body the Ghoz'Tarc has Holo projectors, a chameleon hull so seing a ~180 meter long ship flying throu space as a historical building or a SciFi/Sailing ship would raise a lot of eyebrows. And the alarm at the Union/Alliance.
