I love that Teen Vogue is, and I do mean this quite literally – there is zero irony or comedy in this statement – on the cutting edge of journalism in the United States right now. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/billionaires-should-not-exist
Billionaires Should Not Exist — Here’s Why

Wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few powerful billionaires at the cost of economic hardship and precarity for the many.

Team Trump Says Mark Zuckerberg Has ‘More Ass-Kissing’ to Do

Donald Trump’s aides and allies aren’t ready to buy the Meta and Facebook chief’s right-wing conversion — and will be “keeping an eye” on him.

Teen Vogue's readership is, I am told, mostly women in their 30s and 40s. This makes it a great example of a publication which held onto its reader base by changing its content to suit their changing interests as they aged.

@codinghorror fond memories of Lauren Duca taking Tucker Carlson down.

@codinghorror

"Billionaires shouldn't exist" and "every billionaire is a policy failure", and "an economic system that allows them is immoral" – Rebekka Ayres for Teen Vogue.

Can be said louder but not clearer.

@codinghorror more power to them. Crazy to think they're a minority of press prepared to do this.
@codinghorror @antoniopicornell Teen Vogue has featured quality journalism for some time now. Solid.
@codinghorror I remember reading something in, like, 20124 from Teen Vogue and them being well ahead of the game.
They've been awesome for a while.
@codinghorror And this piece is more than three years old! And still sadly relevant.
@codinghorror I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when whomever at Teen Vogue just said "Fuck it, no one else seems to be willing, let's do some journalism!"
@codinghorror The nice thing with billionaires is you don't have to kill anybody to exterminate them. Expropriation does the job and no one gets hurt. But since they bought the state, it won't happen.
@codinghorror They've been killing it for years, actually.
@codinghorror "Actually, I read Teen Vogue for the articles."
@codinghorror Looks like the makebillionairespay dot info link in that article has been hijacked by a slot machine garbage site.
@codinghorror Has anyone written up how/why this happened? What is in their water?
@codinghorror Because their audience is (at least ostensibly) teenagers, they consciously write at a level that is very accessible. That is key, I think.
@codinghorror I mean I love it, but that they’re so alone in ethical, conventional journalism makes me feel like your hair-on-end avatar.
@codinghorror this is one thing I did have on my 2025 bingo card. Teen Vogue led the revolution during the first Trump regime.

@codinghorror

Just period. Too much money makes one a psychopath, with the power to kill many. And it destroys the economy.

@codinghorror They have been for awhile now. Their articles during the last Trump presidency were some of the best.
@codinghorror
They have done a few quality pieces. So refreshing considering the type of consumerist schlock they could be doing
@DoomsdaysCW
@codinghorror i imagine they had that moment where they realized someone had to be the adult in the room and nobody else was doing it

@codinghorror
Holy class conscience! They go so much harder than "real" publications.

I hope this sticks with the next generation. Nice to see someone out there saying what needs to be said.
@catsalad

@codinghorror The caveat is relevant and understood, but I suspect that most have already experienced that

It is a strange world we live in

@codinghorror this surprises you? It absolutely was during the orange terror’s last at bat as well.
@lorimolson indeed I had forgotten but this one was seriously impressive
@codinghorror I guess I'll be reading Teen Vogue now then, for the first time of my almost 50 years spent on this weird rock.
@codinghorror The number of times in the last year or so that I’ve said ‘the best coverage of this is in Teen Vogue’ is something. Depressing? Horrifying? Hope for the next generation? Far too many, that’s certain.
@codinghorror does teen vogue have an RSS?

@bigTanuki @codinghorror

`<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" href="https://www.teenvogue.com/feed/rss">`

But there's going to be a lot of noise if you're just interested in their occasional (very good!) political signal.

@jsled @bigTanuki @codinghorror here's a preview of the Teen Vogue RSS feed on Path where we filter feeds based on your preference so you don't have to scroll past so much noise

@codinghorror I'll add another article from them about deportations and what folks can do to protect their neighborhoods.

@codinghorror @briankrebs "... an economic system that allows them [billionaires] is immoral.” Bingo! #BillionairesShouldNotExist

@codinghorror Sure, but Conde Nast is a corporate greed machine worse than any I've seen.
@codinghorror
they we're pretty vocal the first time too.
I actually bought a subscription- long since expired

@codinghorror

Good article. Billionaires are corrupt, criminal parasites that have no place in a civilized society.

@codinghorror

Sadly, a right aligned publisher brought the parent and shut 'em down (reorganised, with lots of sackings).

@gnoll110 yeah :( we need to stop that next time
@codinghorror Writing 10 months later: It's a shame that the entire Teen Vogue political desk was laid off this year. https://www.npr.org/2025/11/04/nx-s1-5598290/teen-vogue-layoffs

@vncnt Sadly they fired everyone. They are no longer a good place to read about US politics.
