I do not really have fear of missing out on AI coding assistants, I'm mostly surprised how many people find value in them.

I'm mostly using (web) llm tools like I use StackOverflow: get a hint on a solution, assuming it's probably wrong in some way with a pleasant surprise if the answer actually makes sense.

Dutch site Tweakers writes "person-in-the-middle-attack" in an article and the manosphere is freaking out over there that there's no longer a man in the middle 🤦‍♂️

As someone who is totally blind, the Fediverse is the only place where I have ever been able to follow people such as photographers, artists, or even those who post pictures of their cats or the food they ate. The reason is that most of them use alt text. They take the time to describe the images that my screen reader can't recognise. Some write the descriptions themselves, and others use tools such as altbot. Some worry that their descriptions aren't good enough, especially when they are new at this. Let me assure you, not only are they good enough, they are extremely appreciated! If the rest of the world thought as you did, it would be a much better place. Don't hesitate to ask if you're unsure of something, but never think that we don't notice your effort.

I love that Teen Vogue is, and I do mean this quite literally – there is zero irony or comedy in this statement – on the cutting edge of journalism in the United States right now. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/billionaires-should-not-exist
Billionaires Should Not Exist — Here’s Why

Wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few powerful billionaires at the cost of economic hardship and precarity for the many.

having succeeded in purchasing positions of influence inside the White House, the billionaires and tech VCs have now set their sights back on Wikipedia

Software engineers have a very different relationship to lines of code than do the kind of people who are impressed that LLMs can generate lines of code from a simple prompt.

1. Lines of code are bad. You do not want more of them.

2. Nothing can contain more relevant information than the spec used to define it. If 2 lines of text turn into 100 lines of code, the natural conclusion must be those 100 lines are doing things you never asked for. But WHICH things? Now you have 2 jobs to do.

“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” –J. R. R. Tolkein

The AI *is* coming for your job. The Zuckerbergs of the world will make sure of it.

But hope is not lost. We, the workers, still have real power.

Here are a few ideas on how to weather the coming #WebDev storm:

We need to push back and push back hard on low-quality industrial automation of our profession.
