Nice that you want to try it again, it's not that bad here and there are plenty of writers here too.

Try to use hashtags, on the one hand people who also use Mastodon can find you more easily and you can also find other accounts more easily.

It took me a while to figure this out, but go crazy with hashtags (using and following), and then your posts get a lot more reach and you will see much more of what you are interested in. For example, I would add a hashtag for all those types of people you want to follow to find them across servers. (Aiming to be helpful, hope this isn't patronising).

Forgive me if I'm repeating the advice you've seen already, but click on the interesting hashtags and start following people you see using those hashtags ...that look good to you.
Also, be open to non-English speakers! There's a wonderful translate option ...I think it's automatic? (LibreTranslate)
