#Shein is the largest fashion retailer in the world -- seemingly popping up everywhere overnight. It's made billions by using #ForcedLabour and churning out cheap #plastic clothes that end up in #landfills.
Governments all over the world are considering penalties for companies that produce cheap, unsustainable clothes, and the French government is deciding right now whether or not to pass a similar bill.

This would be a HUGE win for the #environment -- what happens in #France will pave the path for others to follow. But #Shein 's lobbyists are firing all cylinders to stop the law from passing.

The #FashionIndustry is one of the biggest #polluters – making up a staggering 10% of the world’s #CarbonEmissions. It dries up #WaterSources, pollutes #rivers, and #MicroPlastics from clothes end up in our #oceans and #seafood.
It’s crucial that the industry becomes green and fair.
France’s proposed law would completely ban fast fashion advertising and put an environmental surcharge on fast fashion items sold.

The money from the surcharge would then go to eco-friendly brands to support more sustainable fashion. It would be a game changer for how the industry operates, but only if the biggest fashion retailer stops roadblocking change.

What Does France’s ‘Ban’ On Fast Fashion Really Mean?
Last month, France’s lower house of parliament unanimously voted in favour of a bill that aims to reduce fast fashion.
The bill is the first of it’s kind, and if approved by the senate, will see France become the first country in the world to legislate against fast fashion and its devastating impacts.

If the deal seems too good to be true, it likely is. That was the subtext of Saturday Night Live’s bogus ad for “Xiemu,” the latest #FastFashion hitmaker from #China.
Parodying the meteoric rise of #e-commerce phenoms #Shein and #Temu, models pranced across the screen in $10 dresses and $5 shoes as a voiceover proclaimed, “How so cheap? Don’t worry about it!”
