Nearly a truckload of textile waste is generated in the EU every second, and only 1% of this waste currently gets recycled back into new clothing, with the rest either ending up in landfill within Europe, or exported to markets in Africa and Asia. Here, edie examines what actually happens…
A clothing repair school in France’s former textile capital gives garments a second life.
Fighting fashion waste while offering a stepping stone to those far from the job market: that is the mission of the Ecole de la Réparation, which opened in September in northern Roubaix.
The school is training its inaugural class of 20 students in the in-demand skills of sewing and shoe repair.

Built to Last Longer Than Your Phone Contract
What's the oldest things you're wearing today? /LOGS/THE OLDEST THING I’M WEARING IS A PROMISE Posted by Eric |May 16, 2026 Somebody online asked, “What’s the oldest thing you’re wearing today?” and people started listing concert shirts from 1994, ancient hoodies held together by nostalgia and dryer lint, and boots old enough to qualify for social security. Humanity will really turn anything into a personality quiz. But buried in the middle of the chaos was one answer that […]https://ericfoltin.com/2026/05/16/built-to-last-longer-than-your-phone-contract/
I've never thought of myself as someone who has a lot of clothes.. mostly because I tend to wear pyjamas most of the time, or I have maybe 5 outfits I wear on rotation.
However, I've just cleared my closet of 53 dresses for donation.
This is after clearing out 37 skirts and shirts last week, and then about 6 months ago I cleared out easily 100 more dresses/skirts/shirts, plus a ridiculous number of unworn bras and underwear sets.
I think the biggest issue is that I buy clothes and then discover I can't wear them because of sensory issues with them, so they sit in my closet for years.
Tried jacket shopping again... as usual it's led me into another dysphoria spiral. I've wanted to get a leather jacket forever... but I refuse to get a guy's. There's just no shape to it. It's a fucking square with sleeves. If I'm paying that fucking much, I need to fucking love it. And of course... shoulders... long ass arms... I find so many that I love... but I have no hope of fitting into. And so, that disappointment just starts the dysphoria spiral... and I start noticing every little thing... and I'm just collapsing now. People in the past have mentioned having a tailor look at it... but like... I live in some small ass out in the middle of fucking nowhere shithole and if we have someone who will do that, I can't find them.
