#Unix or #linux desktop from the 90s. Awesome aesthetic ๐Ÿ”ฅ
@nixCraft Ah, fvwm. I knew I had found my People when I walked into a new job and they asked me what desktop I preferred. I'm a KDE guy at home, but I chose fvwm for work. Less distractions. Loved it.
@nixCraft ok that one look rly cool

@nixCraft OMG I want...no NEED my Firefox icon replaced with a Netscape Navigator one.

#happyGeek

@nixCraft You can still run it, of you use NsCDE you even get nice features and Qt / GTK integration:

@nixCraft see that background pattern in the browser window.
If you design such a website today it will totally stand out among the dull whiteness of everything.

@nixCraft
CDE :D

The currently stil popular XFCE is based on CDE, what is not really recognisable since XFCE 4, but XFCE 3 came real close to CDE. NB: XFCE4 is still able to resemble CDE

@nixCraft I use fvwm on my laptops to this day. Super efficient use of screen space.
@nixCraft ooooh, how I miss my specially configured .fvwmrc with the self-designed tiling buttons...๐Ÿฅน
@nixCraft where has it been all my life.
@nixCraft used CDE on Solaris for years. mostly with a dark purple theme rocking a 24" monitor (that weighed a ton and made my office hot). had the huge procmail filter file tied in just right to xbiff. good times.
@nixCraft Man, that takes me back to my Solaris 7 / 8 / 9 days.

@nixCraft mostly for anyone who sees this and thinks all Linux people are crazy, I've been a Linux user at home for almost 20 years now and I don't see the appeal of this kinda GUI.

You have to work to make your desktop look this bad.

( For the rest of you, yes I know tiling window managers are useful)

@nixCraft I still remember spending _days_ on the perfect (or so I thought) .fvwmrc.
@nixCraft That FVWM looks like DOOM.
@nixCraft Ah yes, been there, done that. Slackware. 60 floppies. Kernel 0.99pl14. Good times. Except for the failed kernel compilations because I guessed driver parameters wrong.

@nixCraft I still use FVWM daily by the way. The look and feel is a bit more modern, but configuration file hasn't changed much.

#fvwm #desktop

@nixCraft I see the @GIMP is strong with this screenshot ๐Ÿ˜
@nixCraft Reminds me of IBM OS/2
@nixCraft I still have a copy of Debian 0.13 around somewhere on a CD.
