Probably rainy Saturday 5/18, but like a 1/4 inch - highs in the upper 60s Friday, upper 50s Saturday & Sunday. Pack a poncho and/or the goretex, and don't forget your daytime SPF, despite the cloudy forecast. #mawx

Through Sunday, its #Brimfield #Antiques Shows out in #HampdenCounty (kinda Between #SpringfieldMA and #Worcester, at least a 70 minute drive from #boston depending on the 'pike).
They have everything, not just antiques, across huge grass fields. If you like haggling with vendors and unique goods. The May sale is usually the best of the year as vendors unload their winter finds.
#BostonMusic at the #SomervilleArmory Friday Night has Seattle's #EARTH.
If you like droning #metal and standing around with nodding battlejacketed longhair types, the Armory's a spectacular event space in #SomervilleMA (RIP #ONCESomerville).
Doors at 7, #EstherBlue opens at 8, tickets ~$30, All ages show!

Dear reader, if you've found this or past #Boston weekend threads useful, holler - especially if you end up at one of these events.
I curate these weekly threads, exclusively here for the fediverse. I'd like this subset of the fedi to grow beyond ~12 bostonians shouting about how much we love bikes.
Boosts, sharing local-ish events you're interested in, and tagging posts with #BostonWeekend help to that end, and 'favourites/likes' just make me feel seen (which keeps me motivated to spend time on this entirely non-commercial project). I don't have to remind you that there's no algorithm here serving up suggested content, and no paid content mills yet - If your feed doesn't have stuff you want in it, its up to you to make that happen by either boosting or posting, ideally with tags.
Be well and have fun out there, #NewEngland! ✌️ (#BostonWeekend 14/x)
@knizer I really appreciate them. I live pretty much on the water in Eastie and often the first indication I get of ships dog-fighting is when I hear the cannons fire. Then two days later, "So that was a thing..."
?!! You couldn't have told me so I could walk down there?
@pelielios Thanks! As someone who lives on a hill in somerville but is separated from the mystic by a mile and a highway, I sometimes forget how close we are to the water - but also am blissfully unawares of cannons. Is there a 'local #eastie paper' anymore? We've got the #CambridgeDay which has a great Events listing now (and I regularly poach from that page), but with the death of free weeklies, I'm not sure where to find out about whats going on in #EastBoston.
@knizer There's the Eastie Times but I got out of the habit of collecting it during the pandemic, you fill in the rest...
So I appreciate them too but don't always get updates in a preliminary kind of way.
As a local agoraphobe I love these threads! I wouldn't otherwise hear about what interesting things are happening around me. And while most of them aren't my thing, and I don't usually make it to the ones that are, it's still nice to feel like I have the option.
That's a good question. Free/inexpensive, nerdy, Covid cognizant, transit-available, and accessible is a good start (I'm not entirely sure what you mean by iconic here, and music is nice but not usually enough of a draw for me).
Not crowded is probably also important. I like to learn, so lectures and interviews have been the biggest temptations so far (I did actually get to the interview with Cory Doctorow and Randall Munroe, and I've been to a few public lectures at Harvard). I love math. I want to learn more computer science. I have a professional and obsessive interest in language and how it works in society (ironic, I know).
Then again, most of that doesn't give much room for a third space -- I have trouble with the unstructured after-lecture conversations. That's part of why I like these threads: they give options I wouldn't normally think of or hear about
@4sphere oh, clarification on iconic - if some event is happening thats memorable/unique/annual/big draw (head of the charles, esplanade fireworks, fluff festival)
Yeah, that pluralistic/randall talk was great up until the ceiling caught fire, and then everybody crowded in the adjoining hallway for book signing, and we bolted.
I miss out on so many events in boston that I'd love to go to, so its now just habit to read through a couple emails and events listings, but there's a lot to filter out. Hence these threads to hopefully share the filtering. And hopefully others share cool things with me for when I miss stuff. like nothing I read Friday/yesterday mentioned the polish festival, but I had put it on my calendar a month ago so... ^_^
I'm so sorry I couldn't make it today. Will there be a next one?
That sounds like my kind of gathering! Please do keep me posted!
