Fucking Boeing
The hydraulic system broke, we landed safely and are now being towed but it’s never a pleasant experience when a pilot has to say “don’t panic”.
I want off Mr. Boeing’s wild ride.
@Gargron watch out it might be via getting sucked out of a new emerging hole

@Gargron

Boeing Joke 1/3

A group of Boeing employees are sitting on a plane getting ready for takeoff.
The pilot comes on over the intercom and says "Folks, we're pleased to have you flying with us on our brand new 737, fresh from our good friends at Boeing!"

Immediately, the Boeing employees all scramble to get out of their seats and off the plane as quickly as possible. It's utter pandemonium in the aisles as everyone starts to panic.

@Gargron

Boeing Joke. 2/3

Everyone, that is, except for one old man, who remains sitting in his seat, quiet and unbothered.

A junior executive looks at the old man and says "Didn't you hear the announcement? If we don't get off now, this plane might fall apart mid-air!"

@Gargron
Boeing Joke. 3/3

The old man says "Sir, I've been an engineer at Boeing for over 30 years. I've been there through all of the ups and downs, the cost-cutting and outsourcing, the bad times and the good. And if I know how this company operates today, I can say with absolute certainty there's no chance this plane will even leave the ground!"

@Gargron maybe it‘s time for airlines to offer an option like „don‘t fly with Boing“ or „Fly with [ ] Airbus [ ] Boing“

@ij @Gargron

I would definitely like something like that, as someone who flies rarely due already being a nervous flyer, even though Airbus might not be that better at the least I will have a false sense of peace of not flying in a Boeing. 🫤

‘I’m Not Trying to Cause a Scene. I Just Want to Get Off This Plane.’

POLITICO
@Gargron was it a United flight, or another airline?
@Gargron be careful what you wish for
Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun Says He Will Step Down Amid Safety Fears

Other top executives will also leave the company at the end of 2024.

The Daily Beast
@Gargron The chance of this happening is so low, but the frequency of things happening with Boeing planes is going through the roof. Risk assessment of picking flights by aircraft manufacturers is suddenly on the table when flying commercial.
@Gargron Fucking Boeing indeed...
@Gargron Glad to hear you‘re ok!

@Gargron
Holy shit. Time for that entire fleet to be grounded worldwide.

Glad you're OK.

@Gargron Oh shite, glad you’re OK! The asshole CEO already stepped down, but that doesn’t fix this whole mess.
@Gargron Might have also been a maintenance issue. Even if Boeing had no flaws, a lot of those systems need to be kept maintained
@cypnk @Gargron Maybe Airbus is just more resilient, or its MEL (Minimum Equipment List) is written more craftily. I heard from a 'bus driver that one time they flew a revenue flight on one alternator. It is allowed, because APU can be run in flight.
@avia @Gargron That actually does make sense (in a short-term business kinda way, not necessarily safety)
@Gargron What flight? Not seeing this incident in the Aviation Safety Network database yet: https://aviation-safety.net/

@Gargron

Geez 😬 Glad it landed safely tho!

@Gargron Did they really use the words „Don‘t panic“?
@chris Yeah
@Gargron @chris Of course they did. You know how much the modern persons love to panic:

@Gargron damn bro. Safe travels (...starting now)!
@Gargron Holy shit. I'm glad y'all landed safe! :o
@Gargron i hope you're not getting towed outside the environment
@Gargron Glad to know you and the other passengers are safe! Maybe the Mastodon plushie you had with you brought you some good luck?
@Gargron “My ‘don’t panic’ pilot’s uniform is raising a lot of questions that should be answered by my uniform.”
@Gargron At least you came down safely enough to be annoyed about it. Hydraulics failure is always a dire situation for the flight crew.
@Gargron
Ykes, lucky escape. I'm amazed they still have planes in the air at this point (as in I'm surprised they haven't been forced to ground them all, not that they all fell out of the sky. Although...)
@Gargron You may want to drop a short note to Simon at avherald.com.
The Aviation Herald

Aviation Herald - News, Incidents and Accidents in Aviation

@Gargron You do realized that jets are designed with multiple redundant hydraulic systems so that this isn't as big of a deal as you try to make it.

@cjw2001

Using the secondary hydraulic system doesn't require an announcement to the passengers unless there is a bigger problem; nor does it require that the aircraft be towed to the gate.

@Gargron

@PeterLG @Gargron Failure of one hydraulic system will result in a precautionary emergency landing. Emergency <> Unsafe. It is standard practice to tow an aircraft after a hydraulic failure. I've been on two planes that made emergency landings (one engine failure, one electrical issues in the cockpit) and in neither case did I feel unsafe. Attached as an example is a system diagram for a 737 hydraulic system.
@Gargron like when they say “calm down”. Glad to know you’re fine.
@Gargron "don't panic" is just about the worst thing to say if you don't want someone to panic. incidentally great if you want them to panic
@Gargron
Did they at least give you a towel?
@Gargron What have they done *now* ?
@Gargron Was it a Boeing built ship?😬
@Gargron What did they do NOW?!
@Gargron I hope the words don't get switched
