For anyone who's come over to the #Fediverse from #Twitter: One of the first things I did when coming here was seek out a bunch of #journalists to follow, so my TL could mimic the "current events" feed. Here's a curated Google Sheet listing over a thousand journalists who've made accounts over here, who cover all sorts of things from cycling to sports to breaking news. Use it to help populate your #timeline, #share broadly for exposure.

@colemankane this is great. Thank you.
@colemankane There over 1300 names on that spreadsheet. I started to wade in, quite enthused ... I followed three and then realized that two of them are inactive here. It's a good resource, but would require a fair amount of time to select journalists of interest and then check for inactivity (all done within Masto's two-step foreign-follow process).
@stephenesherman @colemankane This problem can be solved by following all of them at once: https://mastodon.social/@skry/110646546949221054
Verified Journalist | The Authority on Journalists on Mastodon and the Fediverse

Verified Journalist is a trusted directory of real and verified reporters, journalists and news outlets on Mastodon and the fediverse.

@alice oooo thank you so much!
@colemankane a lot of these accounts are inactive :(
@colemankane @[email protected] has officially moved here after Elon labeled them "state sponsored media".

@gerowen @colemankane @[email protected] afaik NPR does not have an official account on Mastodon (or in the fediverse).

The press.coop instance mirrors news accounts, although I don't know where they're mirroring NPR from, since they don't post on Twitter any more.

@colemankane How many of these are still active?
@colemankane how does someone add this list to their feed? I don't know what to do now that I have the file
@colemankane Мастодон, конечно, уступает твиттеру - он громоздок и неуклюж.
@colemankane Thanks a lot! That's what I was looking for. Especially the columns with the description of the content. Great effort!
@colemankane #thats good advise. Thanks, sweetie.
@colemankane What a great resource & if/when Masterdon gets lists especially public sharable lists this will make life easy for newcomers
@colemankane is there a way to follow a hashtag in the mastodon app? I can do it in tusky, but it seems silly to have another app just to allow me to follow #journalists (for example).
@Moodre @colemankane I’m not in the app currently, but remember being able to do it. You’re not seeing the option?
@colemankane Another thing to do is to follow Google News. Then one becomes one of the sources of current events in the Fediverse!
@chemoelectric @colemankane sadly, this won’t bring any Canadian news. Our government has just passed a law (the Online News Act, aka Bill C-18) to force revenue sharing between platforms and Canadian news sources. Meta and Google have opted to not link to any Canadian news sites as a result. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6894029
When will Canadian news disappear from Google, Facebook? What the Bill C-18 rift means for you

How will you get the news now? That’s a question many Canadians may be asking after tech companies Google and Meta, which owns the social media giants Facebook and Instagram, vowed to remove links to Canadian journalism.

CBC

@rickbelanger @colemankane

Thus depriving Canadian news sites of links.

(Such failure of so many to adapt to a new era in technology.)

@rickbelanger @colemankane

Obviously no one is required to link to anyone else. There is no gain here for Canada.

@colemankane

Wow, thanks for this effort. This is really useful since the content in my feed is currently very limited in variety.

I'm sure I'm not the only one.

@colemankane Great resource, would be even better with some simple filters to allow for better discovery.
@colemankane fantastic! Thank you, just a shame so many appear to have been here for 5 seconds last November and haven't posted since
@pseudandry maybe they'll come back now!
@colemankane this is awesome!!! Thank you for this!
@colemankane are they all American?
@LadyT no, they're from all over

@colemankane

This is exactly what I was looking for! Yah this place is great ❤️

@colemankane thank you - this is very helpful..enjoy your day!
@colemankane thanks for putting this together!
@colemankane adding country of origin would be helpful
@colemankane ohhhh such an awesome list! Thx so much. FYI: I could not find @lorenzofb @TechCrunch on the list.
@colemankane And then crib from the lists of those they follow.
