"Expanding age verification will entrench the dominance of large tech companies and harm small and volunteer-run services who may not be able to afford to comply.ā€

The UK must address structural causes of online harms like "surveillance-driven advertising models and the dominance of a small number of Big Tech platforms."

Companies and civil society warn that UK is undermining open web

Signatories of joint statement, including Mozilla, Tor and Open Rights Group, call on ministers to address root causes of online harm rather than pursue blanket access restrictions.

Open Rights Group

UK policymakers need to address the root cause of online harms.

This means tackling the business models of large platforms, which are built on extensive data collection, behavioural targeting and engagement-maximising design.

Doug Cameron’s questions are the ones I have been asking myself (and the Party — though there were no answer from them) for two years or more. It’s incomprehensible to me why a supposedly left-wing Parliamentary Caucus with a whopping majority, is so… well, center-right. And that was why I cancelled my Party membership this year.

ā€œā€¦Cameron’s criticism does highlight one of the defining features of the Albanese government. Labor’s historically activist wing has arguably never held so much power to shape the country; a prime minister ensconced in the Lodge, surrounded by a praetorian guard of factional allies and a majority left caucus. Labor’s own constitution describes it as a democratic socialist party. So why is it so centrist?ā€

Will the evolution of Labor’s Left from firebrands to centrists define Albanese’s leadership?

Labor’s activist wing has probably never held such power, yet the PM offers uncritical support for Aukus and refuses to criticise Trump’s acts of war

I know how & have told them (NDIA / Ministers) that ghost service billing (fraud for services not provided) can be solved almost immediately without punishing any participants! It is used elsewhere in the Government to great effect - Also does not require registration of providers #NDIS #Disability #AusPol

I’ve been thinking. Maybe, we’ve all got it wrong and #AlboPM is not colluding with the #GasIndustry at all and there are good reasons why he is not slapping a substantial #GasExpotTax on those bloddy #Grifters and their #Shareholders. But we just don’t know about it. Sure it would help if #AlboPM manned up and explain himself without using dumb soundbites and quips that, translated, mean we’re all dimwits and wouldn’t understand even if he told us. Hell, it would be good enough if he told his cabinet the ā€˜good reasons’ not to so that his cabinet could tell us the things #AlboPM can’t … for some reason…

But no… of course not… he is such a #Secretive little gnome.
Anyway, read the article and feel better by knowing you’re nor the only one who thinks #AlboPM ā€˜s got it massively wrong. Sad sack that he is.
