I should add that on #Mastodon, it's very helpful to use hashtags.

I tend to include #science & #history in my posts, but I've also created hashtags to keep related posts easily accessible.

For example, #HistoryRemix is a series highlighting diverse pioneers in science & the arts. #SharedPlanet is all about the biodiversity of life on Earth.

The #fediverse is different than other social networks bc we get to build & curate our experience. It's us, not an algorithm. /2

It seems to me that #Hashtags work better here than on Twitter. I only use Twitter as a comparison because there is nothing else like #Mastodon.

For me, it will be just a matter of getting used
to coming here.

I like the banter.

Im just curious. How are they keeping MAGA away. Through rules? That seems too easy. 😆

@Sheril I have a good feed. I'm slowly working on making my #Fediverse better.

Most people I already knew on Twitter. I still prefer that platform. My first chat was through mIRC in 1999. It is similar to that. I never used AOL. I'm a techie and can see that you have to be tech minded for this platform, but most educated people are to a degee.

So the #fediverse connects us educated people, not MAGA.

You must be educated to enjoy Twitter. Others don't understand. They're using META products

@Sheril Agreed, this is why I think it's very important that the option to subscribe to hashtags gets added in the mobile app soon (unless I am just blind and have missed it)

@meandmine1010 @Sheril @feditips Then check the defederation lists for screwed-up instances that the sysadmins block out of principle, and sign up there too! There's even a Reason column, so you know exactly what kind of dumpster you're diving into!

It's not easy getting used to the lack of outrage but, it's nice to post something like a picture of your embroidery work and not be afraid it's going to turn into a nasty political debate or, I don't know, insulting my threadwork and a debate which thread is better which turns ugly.

The way this place is structured, if one server starts doing something awful the other servers can just block it.

This has happened before when a nazi server tried to join the Fediverse, most other servers blocked it and the nazis ended up just talking to themselves.

Yes it is, try using the third party app Tusky, it's a lot better than the official app and includes support for following hashtags.

The official Android app is missing a lot of features, Tusky has been around a lot longer and has more options.

Third party apps on here are generally better.

@CtrlAlt @feditips the megalodon android app also allows to follow hashtags, plus the ability to schedule posts and save drafts.

BTW, do you know what is the proper place for feature requests? Is there an "official" Mastodon / Calckey repository that all the forks can pull from?

@Sheril @feditips For me personally CalcKey did the trick! When Eloner bought Twitter I gave mastodon a try but to be honest I didn't like the look and feel. Now that also Reddit's /u/spez went full bananas and I tried bonding with fediverse again I stumbled across CalcKey which is a fork of MissKey. If you scroll down their website(https://calckey.org/) they even got a comparison area of themselves with different fediplatforms. Nonetheless CK is only a couple months old and has some clunkyness to it still
