I'd like to mail out as many letters on Monday as possible, to folks across the US.

I don't have enough data yet, but so far, it looks like mastodon folks are more likely to actually tell me the date their envelope arrives than folks who found the project on reddit.

As I've had thousands of folks from reddit participate, and less than 30 from mastodon, I'd need a lot more from here to have enough data to compare.

@triploidtree sign ups have slowed down massively, so the data isn't growing as much currently.

I've got over 3,000 data points so far, and am currently working on a big update.

I've used the new "Life Magnified" USPS stamps on these.

Tomorrow (Monday), I'll walk these to the post office, and send out emails to the folks who signed up for them.

Spoiler: my household now seems to get mail every second or third day on the regular. That shift happened right after our mail carrier was told by his doctor he needed to stop work for health reasons 😳

@kristinHenry Cool project! Seems a bit costly, for you. Or can you monetize the data well enough? I was thinking about how you could increase your dataset. I sometimes send mail using a printing service that accepts a PDF which they print, stuff into an envelope, and post. What if you offered that service? You could add a note to every envelope asking the recipient to give the date of receipt

@kristinHenry The extra note that you add could include a QR code for an URL that the recipient visits. Both you and the original sender would be interested in that date. You might have to come up with a way to incentivize the recipient to scan the QR code though.

@kristinHenry One idea would be to give recipients a bitcoin private key with zero funds. If the recipient scans the QR code, you send $1 (or whatever) worth of btc to the private key that was on the note. The $1 could be the markup on the costs you charge the sender. This would ultimately be a way to collect delivery time data at no cost to you.

@kristinHenry It would also be interesting to calculate consistency of delivery time between city pairs. E.g. an envelope was sent from A to B and took ~60 days. Another envelope was sent from A to B after 30 days of the 1st envelope, and the both arrived at the same time. So one took 30 days & the other took 60 days to traverse the same route. This was near election time, btw.
