Principles of Transformative Solidarity Practice | Solidarity Is

Centering | Solidarity Is

Crises do not affect us in the same way. We are all concerned, but not in the same way. People with disabilities, homeless, elderly, migrant workers, indigenous communities, black people, etc... will have to deal with increased vulnerability.
Solidarity means #NoOneIsDisposable
We need #SolidarityNotCharity.
We don't have to believe in charity, but solidarity.
A translate thread from @sdetsup (12 août 2020)
Angela Davis says it best:
"We believe that 'charity' reduces people to their circumstances, framing people as problems to be fixed rather than human beings with their own experiences, insights and opinions. This negates the role of systemic failures and injustices. Charities are often apolitical."
"When we act from solidarity, we foreground the views and needs of those who are directly harmed by our immigration system. When we organise in opposition to traditional hierarchies, we can build the power and networks needed to topple racist detention centres for good."
"Our approach emphasises respect and mutuality. We listen to people we support, and organise to meet their needs."

Slavery is a Metaphor

Unsettling America
The #ColonialMentality of white privileged European settlers: it is this form of ignorance that knows no bounds, unwilling to learn from the genocidal past of its ancestors and continues to spread and perpetuate this same hatred everywhere.

Decolonization [...] for a pedagogy of solidarity engaged in decolonization, relational, transitive, creative solidarity [...] but also the very notion of what it means to be human, as crucial for #Decolonization.

#Canada #IndigenousWomen make up almost half of the prison population while making up less than 5% of Canada’s population, and #IndigenousMen compromise around 30% of those incarcerated in Canada. This is systemic, and a money maker.
