I need like... 24 hours. Mostly to sleep. I shall return.
If any of you think any of this is easy, I feel like Indy right now. He never talked about doing it all with immense jet lag. And 1930s painkillers.
Holy shit. I’m a martial arts master. And I’m going to be a SANS instructor. I have not even had time to think about any of it.
@hacks4pancakes Congratulations! Next: World Domination!
@hacks4pancakes Maybe scuba next, so you can kick the crap out of spearphishers underwater?
@JetSm00th all I want to do is be Lara Croft so I guess I have to
@hacks4pancakes I would SO watch that freakin’ movie!!
@hacks4pancakes look forward to your future conference talk about how each informs the other. Congrats.
@hacks4pancakes Congratulations times 2!!!
@hacks4pancakes woohoo! That's all incredible, Lesley!!!!

@hacks4pancakes

🥳 So excellent! 🥳
I've done nothing and I'm very proud!

In emergency, hand Lesley anything resembling a weapon, stay low and watch out for the backswing, get a good grip on the back belt loop and follow Lesley out. 👍

@hacks4pancakes you know that the next time I see you I’m going to be addressing you as “Master Lesley”, right? Doesn’t matter that it’ll most likely be some conference or other. =D
@hacks4pancakes Cool! where can I find your SANS classes?
@hacks4pancakes congratulations Lesley! You deserve it, you've worked so hard.
@BrownCoatFan I don’t even know what to do now
@hacks4pancakes Congrats! But I thought that one only became a master after so much training/teaching that their black-belts were worn back to white… signifying the long path back to beginner’s mind…

@hacks4pancakes well, we know which 30s painkiller he actually used..the same one Nick and Nora Charles went for.

Here's wishing you a good rest and recovery and thank you for the good work you do.

@hacks4pancakes I think that's what he meant by "it's not the years, it's the mileage"
@hacks4pancakes you're just being awesome :)
@hacks4pancakes You deserve it. You've had a hell of a year. And it's only April.

@hacks4pancakes Buddy, I need sleep even without a high-stress, physically exerting test.

I'm proud of you. Sleep.

@hacks4pancakes I'm glad you had a good trip, Turkish Airlines aside.
@hacks4pancakes Lesley's once per month recharge interval before doing all the April things
@hacks4pancakes take 48, the dumpster shall still be on fire when you return 🤗
@hacks4pancakes now that’s a demonstration of… mastery. =D
@whereisthespai @hacks4pancakes time until the edits of hacks snapping various things in half is now started.
@BabblingGeek @whereisthespai @hacks4pancakes brb, need to get a particular vidcap from my Commodore..
@hacks4pancakes congratulations Lesley! That's a great thing to have achieved. I hope you get to hold on to that sense of accomplishment for a good long time!
@hacks4pancakes pesky computers stand no chance now, irritating humans even less so! 🔥
@hacks4pancakes amazing and impressive and just wow.

@hacks4pancakes impressive! 👊

<makes mental note not to ever mess with Lesley>

@hacks4pancakes I just showed my seven year old who just earned her yellow belt after completing all the "little ninja" belts, she couldn't believe you broke that
@hacks4pancakes congrats! Looks like you hit your fingers on the concrete block there :/ ouch
@moritzdietz no, I didn't even break my acrylics :)
@hacks4pancakes Ha that's awesome and I'm glad.

@hacks4pancakes Congratulations, Lesley. Very impressive!

I haven’t asked any naïve martial arts questions in a while, so this is probably as good a time as any.

I see a lot of Chinese videos of people doing Kung Fu with swords, combining kicks and punches with swordplay. (The are usually fighting WWII Japanese soldiers. They are still a little sensitive about having their country invaded during WWII.)

I can see how this might be useful, particularly if you were fighting someone with a sword, but didn’t want to kill them.

Assuming that this is real (the martial art, not the video), does anyone do this for fun?

Thank you for your patience.

@lynngrant yes, most martial arts combine weapons and open hand in some order of training. Many weapons function as an extension of arms and fists. Being able to defend against and disarm weapons while holding one is important too. Footwork is pretty universal.
