I had one bad experience (a poorly packaged book, ruined by the post office) in 2018. But service in the past few years has been uniformly excellent. They are presently one of my favorites.

Been using Better World Books for years. Great source of used books that also supports libraries. For less common titles, their stock fluctuates. But if you keep checking back eventually they may have it. And their books are often in good shape. I try to get books there before resorting to the big A.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Thanks. Good to know. Many people will be shocked to learn that the books that U.S. libraries buy are often weeded after 4 or 5 years (multiple copies of bestsellers sometimes faster). Those books do end up in the secondhand market.
ladygeeke@irizoris @kimlockhartga @bookstodon UK too. It drives me insane because they often buy in a new part of a series but they've already remaindered earlier parts so you can't go back and follow it through. But on the plus side, cheap used books!

When I moved out of the country from New Jersey, I was able to take my unneeded books in good shape to their local collection box. Far more useful than just discarding or recycling them.
