I don't care what anyone says, this is the peak era of graphics in games
the bad time: the era we traded cute pixel perfect games for polygons with blurry textures
@jeremyburge crash bandicoot was basically the only early 3d game to get it right
@dbloom @jeremyburge Nnah, there are quite a few that look good in the right context (namely a CRT or a well considered filter on a modern display).

@kalleboo @jeremyburge Hehehe. Epic.

My favorite as a kid was “Snopptorp” and “Snopptorpsvägen”, which sadly was real. I wouldn’t want to put that as my address :)

(I hope I remember the exact name right, it’s been decades and more.)

@jeremyburge oh hello Jeremy I'm so glad to see you here!
@mimsical likewise, Mims. We’re getting the band back together
@jeremyburge @marcoarment What’s the first one? Other two must be prince of persia and simcity (2000?).
@jeremyburge oh the cities we see! Do you remember the pirate games? I loved my squares of sea!!!

@jeremyburge @marcoarment I’ve always been very impressed at the attention-to-detail the quarry people took to make each stone to exacting detail so that each one looks exactly the same as the rest.

Only the best of the best

@jeremyburge I totally agree. And, some of the most fun games. Not overly complicated, good storylines, easy to pick up.
@jeremyburge @marcoarment aaawwww Sim City 2000 ❤️❤️❤️ so many good childhood memories
@jeremyburge Prince of Persia, oh hell yes.
@jeremyburge @marcoarment now I want to play glider pro again…
@jeremyburge Which version of Prince of Persia was that? I'm not sure I've seen that high-res! It appears to be the Macintosh version when referencing this site: https://www.mobygames.com/game/prince-of-persia/screenshots

@chadgeidel yep the Mac version looked best (tho from memory it ran a bit slow compared to the Apple //e version)
@jeremyburge it’s kinda crazy how this style kinda holds up.
@jeremyburge I agree and am also in my 40s. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing
@jeremyburge like the original doom
@MikeyMcFilms Doom was amazing, but the old 2D pixel art games hold up better (visually) than any early 2.5D / 3D game
@jeremyburge @marcoarment I remember having to use one of those “RAM doubler” programs to get Sim City 2000 running on my PC back in the day, still ran terribly but better than not running at all. I was 13 back then and definitely couldn’t buy RAM with my weekly allowance
@jeremyburge @marcoarment @siracusa Agreed…These were great. And Oids. Spin Doctor. Out of This World. Spectre. Also lots of Ambrosia shareware (Apeiron, Maelstrom, Escape Velocity). Good times.
@jeremyburge I can hear each of those pictures.
@jeremyburge I really loved Prince of Persia. The sound when you were cut in half still hunts me.
@jeremyburge PoP had such an original, memorable style. I didn’t even play that much and can still remember all the individual moves and sounds.
@jeremyburge @marcoarment damn, profound nostalgia 😍
@jeremyburge 256 colours should be enough for anybody

@jeremyburge Completely agree!

And the best computer to play them on was (and still is!) the Amiga.

#RetroGaming #RetroComputing #RetroGames #Amiga #Commodore

@ajsadauskas @jeremyburge had the original A1000, A2000 and A1200
Loved them all

@bgrinter @jeremyburge I'm mildly jealous of you getting to play with the big-box Amigas!

I upgraded from a C64 to an Amiga 500. Later on, I also got a CD32 (a very underrated machine, IMHO).

Amazing systems compared to anything else on the market at the time (and arguably for many years after Commodore's demise as well).

@ajsadauskas @jeremyburge wish I’d kept them - sold them for a PC once the software dries up ☹️
Wanted to play Dark Forces and Wing Comander 3 ( it had Mark Hamill!)

@jeremyburge When I was young , playing games like Chrono Trigger, I was dreaming of video games with graphic like cartoon.

Today, we can do it, but honestly I think it lack of pixel. 😅

@jeremyburge @marcoarment mmm glider and sim city took up a lot of time.
@jeremyburge There's a period in the mid 90s specifically in PC gaming that doesn't get nearly as much recognition as it deserves from the crowds that keep endlessly referencing Nintendo 8 and 16 bit stuff.
@jeremyburge I loved the original Prince of Persia and the smooth animations so much.
