If you haven't been to my silly virtual conference @pancakescon before, it has a very unusual / insane format. Speakers have to teach a infosec topic that is aimed at junior audiences for half their talk, and then the other half of their talk has to be on a non-cybersecurity hobby, like cooking, music, or astronomy. This will be year 4. https://infosec.exchange/@pancakescon/109784692293736983

Please consider putting a talk in if you are free that day! It is always a lot of fun and our volunteers do a great job.

Hello pals! The #PancakesCon 4 CFP is now OPEN! It will close on February 19 at 8:30PM Central US. Please read the instructions *carefully*! #infosec #cybersecurity https://forms.gle/9KwyPpxaXyGS4KaV6

Infosec Exchange
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon
This is by far the best conference of the past 4 years. If you follow me, you know I have pretty, um, broad interests. #PancakesCon takes that career/hobby eccentricity and flings it into an even stranger orbit. If you like infosec, computers, knitting, carpentry, beer, cosmetology, cosmology, goat poop, etc., you should attend - or better yet, submit for the CFP!
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon Do you need additional volunteers in a non-speaking capacity?
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon how long a synopsis do you want for the CFP form?
@BabblingGeek @pancakescon whatever is needed to make your submission coherent and easy to read. We have a CFP assistance slack channel if needed
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon This will continue to be one of the highlights of the conference year for me even when I'm comfortable traveling to conferences again.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon I’ve never participated, but it sounds like a lot of fun! I also really appreciate the focus on more entry-level material, as so many conferences aim more for talks that can leave an infosec newbie’s head spinning. I’ve always thought we, as an industry, need to spend more time helping the folks just getting started, but those kinds of talks get rejected by many cons.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon As an admirer of the Con I'll have to see a) what I can put together b) can I stockpile energy drinks to stay awake long enough.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon this is awesome! i’m totally gonna submit a talk.
@hacks4pancakes
So "Challenges in FLOSS supply chain security" & "The physics of throwing pancakes" it is then? πŸ˜‹ @pancakescon
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon Nifty! I should like to attend virtually, if that’s possible!!
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon I once wrote a US History paper tying Cedar Point's Gemini roller coaster to Studio 54 and disco (the prof loved it). I wonder if I could tie together something equally ridiculous for a talk.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon Damn, that whole thing sounds delightful.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon can I pretty please get a definition for an infosec/cybersecurity topic? I'd like to apply, and work with a lot of infosec-adjacent issues, but I'd be worried they're not "pure" enough.
@jjcelery it should be directly related to a niche of cybersecurity such as DFIR, pen testing, GRC, appsec, or malware research.
@hacks4pancakes thank you! This makes it much clearer. I might just have a thing.

@hacks4pancakes would it be acceptable to run my Idea by you here, or do you strongly prefer I throw my spaghetti at the google form wall and hope it sticks?

I know this is labour and I don't want to pile on

@jjcelery our CFP is blind so I can’t see it but we have a CFP mentorship channel in the slack

@hacks4pancakes

@pancakescon

Can I devote the second half of my talk to being why I still use dedicated devices (alarm clock, mp3 player, etc)? Or is that too similar to cybersecurity stuff

@Dio9sys it’s borderline but the best thing is to pitch it and submit
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon Sad part is, I have no idea what I'd talk about for the hobby half anymore : |
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon Glad another one's happening, though.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon the hard part is writing cfp, but I was talking with therapist about doing presentations
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon @bdimcheff I love this idea! True fun community conferences like this are the best.
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon
I would have loved participating (listening or giving a presentation) but 3:30am CET is just too hard πŸ˜…
@bertrand @hacks4pancakes I am not certain what you mean by that time? The conference runs from about 4PM to 1AM CET
@pancakescon oh 8:30pm CT is the *CFP closing time*, not the conference time πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
My bad
Here I am then to submit my talk!
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon this seems like such a fun idea …
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon sounds fascinating. Will def look into it.
@hacks4pancakes I’m really excited about this!!
@hacks4pancakes @pancakescon I had such a great time presenting last year!! I love this format
