The Washington Post
DID NOT
replace their "share on twitter" icon with a "share on Mastodon" link.
I saw an illustration that showed it. My mistake

This needs doing across the internet. Twitter is Alex Jones, twitter is Truth Social, twitter is Tucker Carlson.
CORRECTION: The image I saw must have been to illustrate a story, and NOT the WaPo changing links.

I am gratified by edit, hopefully this edit will propgate.

End twitter, promote freedom and the tusk, save the world.

I have edited this to correct the statement about wapo changing, Is there something else to do to propagate the change?

@kevinrns Mistakes happen.

At least Mastodon allows for edits that notify users that previously boosted.

@adamjcook @kevinrns even better, there’s a visible audit trail. Hard to gaslight folks with that in place.
@kevinrns if you didn’t boost your own posts (some do) then try boosting it.

@LucyWildboots
Thanks, I think it propagated.

Our task is even harder.

@kevinrns
It would be nice if Bannon was in jail instead of being loose to cause trouble for foreign governments....
What the fuck was that stupid judge thinking.

@BelindaMontgomery @palin

That suggests without being bought he would have issued a real sentence. I dont think he needed to be bought. I think well off let the well off, off.

@kevinrns @demvoter It still seems to be "share on Twitter" on their website:
@hughster @kevinrns @demvoter same here. Still Twitter.

@colo_lee @hughster @kevinrns @demvoter Here also.

Is it different in the app? Anyone have that?

@moira @colo_lee @hughster @demvoter

No it is my error, I saw a story illustration, not the WaPo change, I have also edited the original toot.

@kevinrns @moira @hughster @demvoter
Good for you. Well done.
I've seen wapo people say they're working on their own mastodon instance and they let reporters give mastodon address now. So seems like just a matter of time...
@moira @colo_lee Original post has been updated—see above…
@kevinrns Thank you for the edit to correct this—it's appreciated! (It would be great to see this feature though and I hope it'll come in due course…)
@kevinrns I subscribe and just accessed an article and the share was twitter. No mastodon, at least for me.
@kevinrns FB is Twitter under a different name, without the owner that spends 23 hours a day shitposting. Until media sites get rid of the "share on Facebook" link, what WaPo did is scooping water out of the ocean with a toy bucket.
@kevinrns Sorry but this isn't accurate -- the Washington post UI has a share charm with a twitter link but not a mastodon one (Jan 10, 2023)
@kevinrns I’m still seeing the Share on Twitter link and no Mastodon link…
@kevinrns can't see that... opened washing post, checked 3 stories, all of them had the twitter share link.
@kevinrns Any progress on definition of ‘domestic terrorist’ and ‘incitement to violence’ in USA?
@kevinrns Source? I do not see any Share on Mastodon link on WaPo articles today, and I still see a Share on Twitter link.

@nep I have edited the original to say that, youre correct, an added a reply ... im an idiot or something, I can only guess Washington Post showrd the Mastodon Icon there, to illustrate their story.

Which only redoubles my comitment to ecpose twitter, get twitter removed from Washington Post et al.

@kevinrns @nep You boosted his reply, but your original post is still there and still being boosted, continuing to spread the misinformation. @mmasnick just boosted it.

@kcivey @kevinrns @nep i have removed my boost... but I do not see the original being edited.

Sorry for boosting that misleading info. I do hope that Kevin updates his original post.

@mmasnick @kcivey @nep

I am sorry you cant see the edit, i will try again. You are right in all ways. I did see this, I am sorry i didnt quore tweet it, couldnt quote tweet it.

@kevinrns Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
@kevinrns must be an A/B test, as I'm still seeing "share on Twitter" here... Just picked the first story off the main page ("House Republicans form committee to investigate the government"), but a few other random pages also show the same thing.

@emag @kevinrns

Lol same, I see a Twitter but not Mastodon link.

In yet another journalist exercise of shooting oneself in the foot, though, the captive paywall popup pops up way too fast to even click any of the sharing links... just when you thought paywalls didn't limit their reach far enough!

Also. I hate that I had to type "popup pops up". This is not the future we were promised.

@emag no, you are correct, I am wrong. I can only assume what I saw awas an illustration.

Might I say that if quote toots were enabled, that wpuld have been my toot.

@kevinrns I just checked Washington Post and as of 1/10/23 17:00 CDT, it showed Twitter and not Mastodon for me as a logged in user.

@sfierbaugh

Yes I corrected the original toot, its worse, a bigger job, than I thought.

@kevinrns yeah right. People are on several platforms now including Twitter. Our governments, politicians, journalists, news organizations etc. from all over the world are on Twitter. Good luck with that.
@kevinrns i got a notification about the edit
@kevinrns thanks for the clarification. I liked & boosted your post, and I got a notification that you had edited it. Doesn't mean that the edit will pass in front of eyeballs, but seems like the best that can be done.

@rdviii

no, the edit I did is the note you saw I think, wonderful mastodon, repopulates the correction to every home that saw it.

a huge step up from 'quitter'

@kevinrns
Nope, I still see Twitter when I click on share from the web app; no mastodon option.

@kevinrns

It is always a good thing (tm) to realize that that you misunderstood or were confused but then acknowledge you were incorrect.

Do not trust grahpics.

@kevinrns @dankennedy_nu will you do this with your blog?
@SteveStein @kevinrns Steve, I’m at the mercy of WordPress dot com. What I can tell you is I removed the Twitter feed I had on my blog and replaced it with a box saying where I am now.
@kevinrns @SteveStein Also, I’ve read that you can’t really have a “Share on Mastodon” button because of the thousands of different instances. I’m not sure whether that’s right or not.

@dankennedy_nu @SteveStein

Over on the side, depending on your vesion, is your thread on top, then everyone you follow, then notices, then search,

The next icon is all of this instance, and then the whole federation of instances that is followed by this instance, which can be almost all, depending on your instance.

@kevinrns where'd you see this? I randomly clicked on a few pieces and didn't find a share on the don button?
@BenjaminHimes You are correct. I have edited the toot. It was an illustration I assume.
@kevinrns they are afraid too
@kevinrns @sivy just got a 7 day ban for quoting Leviticus over there lmao
@ScarletRed @kevinrns @sivy really? then little marco should've been suspended along time ago
