Help! I was a #LastPass user. Now what do I use? I need a manager that will work for my whole family, because I need to keep tabs on my kids’ PWs, plus Spouse and I need access to each other’s PWs if anything happens to us.

I’m seeing recs for #BitWarden, #1password, and #keepass. If you use one of these, which did you choose and why?
@anoosh I switched from LastPass to 1Password earlier this year. I was familiar with 1Password from work, they have a great rep, and all the features I needed. Plus, works WAY better than LastPass on Android.
@megantaylor Does it work well for teams (families) and across devices?
@anoosh Can't speak to family context, but works great for teams (work). And I have it installed on 2 laptops + my phone, has been seamless so far.
@megantaylor Awesome! Good to know. Thank you!
@anoosh Your welcome! I was super nervous about making the switch but it was incredibly easy.

@anoosh it's not as convenient as browser-based stuff but this is the only thing I trust:

Based on PGP (pretty much gold standard for encryption standards) and git. Doesn't rely on any 3rd party.

Pass is the standard unix password manager, a lightweight password manager that uses GPG and Git for Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X.

@AnarchoDoggo Thank you! Good pup! Would love something as reliable and vigilant as this guy.
@anoosh awww, what a good boi
@AnarchoDoggo He’s big and loud if RW dudes try to intimidate me. Meanwhile, he’s an excellent snuggler. The best.

@anoosh 1password user here.

I've had it for years. I was on keypass a long time ago, but decided I wanted to explicitly pay folks for maintaining the software. I don't use most of the features, but the sync between devices and auto filling on the iphone are very nice to have.

@anoosh BitWarden. Price point, open source, extensions and mobile apps work slickly. Has custom URI matching which makes things far simpler to organise.

@anoosh I chose #BitWarden because it's free and open source, and I've been 100% satisfied. No experience with #LastPass or #1Password.

While Bitwarden’s generous free version is a big advantage, I feel 1Password’s refined user experience makes it the better pick for most users and businesses.

@anoosh I'm a big fan of #keepass, but switched to #1password because of the easier syncing, sharing and family restore abilities 😉

(actually I'm using both atm and will have KeePass as my backup option)

@anoosh There is #1Password , which is well regarded, but potentially could suffer the same kind of attack. It will meet those needs. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, you can use #iCloud Keychain, though I don’t know about sharing. There’s also Bitwarden, which I hear good things about, but have never used.
@dcreemer I saw a Reddit thread that 1password is end-to-end encrypted, including URLs, making it more secure than LastPass.
@anoosh They do claim e2e encryption, and have published reports on their security, auditing etc. https://support.1password.com/security-assessments/ Unfortunately since they are not an open source product we have to take their word on it (and that of the organizations that have audited them). FWIW I (random dude on the Internet) have used them for years.

@dcreemer Thanks, Random Dude on the Internet! Appreciate your help.
@anoosh 1Password or Bitwarden. I'm currently invested in 1Password, but eager to test Bitwarden as well.

@anoosh the best thing is to stop putting your data in control of third parties. Look into using #Keepass which works very similar to #Lastpass but you get to choose where to store your data. I recommend #KeepassXC which has a client for every platform and supports storing the data on local, removable, remote, and cloud locations. Even better, you can separate the data for the kids, spouse, and yourself into separate database files to limit exposure in the event of a compromise.

Everyone should use a password manager, and after researching dozens and testing six, we recommend 1Password because it’s secure and easy to use.
