Random thoughts and opinions from Americas 4th largest city.
Often #yankees, #newyork and #brooklyn but mostly random
Democrats have been telling us for YEARS that 2nd Trump administration woukd be an existential threat to democracy. Now Trump has won a 2nd term, has a single leader (particularly at State level) offered a single idea, plan or policy shift to defend its citizens???
@conradhackett Search was really Tw*tter’s biggest selling point, as it really was a Google for real-time and breaking events. Using it effectively enabled me to see why my cable provider wasn’t streaming a sporting event or if other people in my area were experiencing the same road traffic issue or even to see if someone had already made the joke I had thought up about a particular topic. It’s the only thing I really miss while using Mastodon instead.
My biggest issue with Mastodon is that there appears to be no good way to search it. Unless I'm missing something that is a huge weakness
@Brklynmind @danielhep has he been silencing anyone? Censoring posts of independent journalists?
I do not understand how news outlets are letting their reporters still post to Twitter. Through fear of silencing Musk effectively has editorial control, which sets up conflict and questions of unstated influence
I am truly disappointed that Trump's major announcement humiliation is being drowned out by Musks Twitter banning.
As journalists and news sources realize what twitter has become, I hope some more outlets do what @TexasObserver and a few others have done and set up their own instances. It's a good idea, for credibility, safety, and a long list of other reasons. We saw how well trying to pack journalists into one server went. Let's try the other way.
I am coming around to believing that Musk is intent on destroying Twitter. Not sure if it's some $44B tantrum bc he was forced to buy it, or some sinister plot but it's getting impossible to believe this isn't intentional
Trump's big announcement!
