I just saw a #wine menu in a #Toronto bar and saw a #tannat / #cab from France. I am not totally versed in all types of wines but shit. What the hell is Tannat and is it any good.

#viticulture

@AndreDarmanin #Tannat is a #grape variety native to southwest #France. It is thick-skinned and makes #tannic, long-lived #wines, especially in the appellation of Madiran. Its thick skins confer resistance to #fungal diseases, which makes it popular in #Uruguay and #Virginia. #wine
@AlexGBardsley @simonjwoolf @thegrapesunwrapped Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I will have to look for it at the liquor store and try it sometime soon.
@AndreDarmanin @simonjwoolf @thegrapesunwrapped #Tannat can be pretty "rustic" young.
That gives me an idea. A small importer in my neck of the woods, #WineTraditions, represents south-west #France really well (#Irouléguy, anyone?). I should ask my rep if they have any older vintages of #Madiran available.
@AlexGBardsley @AndreDarmanin @simonjwoolf Pablo Fallabrino (3rd generation Uruguayan winemaker from a Piemonte family) does a cool thing with Tannat. His "Alcyone" is part aromatized/part fortified/all Tannat, and it tastes like chocolate in a glass.
