2/2 This is a perfect time to dive in on this, but it might still improve a bit. 14%, $40-ish for new vintages #wine #greece #tannat

I'm a Tannat fan. It's spread beyond the more obvious places like Uruguay and Madiran to Virginia, Greece and beyond.

Alpha Estate in Greece has been making nice ones. Black fruits, a touch of earth and a relatively bright, juicy finish make this a fresh success. In what I would call Alpha's style, this has a polished and balanced feel. Ten years on, it shows no signs of needing to be drunk soon.

Some food porn from my trip to Uruguay. The food here may not be wide-ranging, but it is spectacular. Especially the grilled meat (parrilla) and local Tannat wine. The people are fabulous. Great country that few Americans think to visit. Thank you, Uruguay for a fantastic, high-protein week.

Fairly tasty but I need more. More bold, more oak, more tannin, more warm. Anyone have recommendations?

A bottle of 2022 single vineyard #Tannat from Bodega Garzon in Uruguay I'm enjoying tonight with some cassoulet.

Wonderfully thick, leathery and earthy, with chocolate, tobacco and well integrated acidity that keeps everything balanced and delicious. Wonderful!

A Return to Uruguay for a Taste of Tannat

Last spring we tasted a group of wines from Uruguay that included Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel and Cabernet Franc in addition to the country’s flagship variety, Tannat. That tasting was accompanied by a webinar that provided a detailed introduction to the country, its wine regions and growing conditions. We were impressed by the quality and affordability of the wines we tasted.
