πŸ‘‹πŸ½Hey, I'm hopping on the #introduction train for #followfriday #ff.

My name is Jenea (jen-AY), and I'm a 4th-year Ph.D. Candidate in #Genomics and #ComputationalBiology at the University of Pennsylvania. I'm also a dual MA Student in #Statistics and #DataScience at Wharton.

My research spans #transcriptomics/#RNA #splicing, #singlecell, #shortread, & #longread platforms, and innovating approaches to applying these tools in #cancer + #pediatric diseases

In January 2022, I created an online #networking platform for Black Women in #CompBio to connect, build social capital, and collaborate.
Since then, we've grown to over 200 members from 4+ continents, 300+ supporters throughout the CompBio field, and are run by an amazing team of 8 scientists across professional stages.

We host the#BlackInCompBio series, which gives folx a platform to share their science & journeys through #seminars or #podcast interviews.

Connecting Black women in computational biology - Nature Computational Science

Jenea Adams, a second year PhD student, found it hard to connect with other Black women in her field of study. She then decided to create the Black Women in Computational Biology Network, which has attracted the support of many researchers. We spoke to her about the Network, as well as gender and racial inequality.

In October 2022, we just published our first editorial in #PLOS Computational Biology titled "Ten simple rules for creating a global network in computational biology."

As for what I'll use this platform for: I'm still exploring, but hope to expand the conversation on creating #inclusive and #sustainable frameworks that empower Black women to equitably engage in #CompBio across the diaspora. This includes sharing information and creating safe, #community-driven spaces for learning and storytelling.

I'm excited to continue interacting with the #CompBio and #DataScience scholarship and #network with other scientists.
