You find the switch to Mastodon quite hard / you donโ€™t like the app / you find the app slow, counterintuitive, and unaesthetic?

LIFE CHANGER: You donโ€™t have to use Mastodon on the Mastodon app! ๐Ÿคฏ

I switched to Metatext (available for iPhone, not sure for Android) and this makes the whole experience *so* much more enjoyable ๐Ÿ˜ It takes to 2 seconds to download and reconnect to your account via your instance/server!

@BerLinguistin nop. Tusky for Android
@redegelde Really great app! It's what I'm using.
@paul @redegelde I like Tusky too. Familiar to use setup, much like the old ๐Ÿฆ one in the beginning.
@redegelde @BerLinguistin Does Tusky still blacklist certain instances by default? Is there a way to disable that blacklist if one needed to? If I remember correctly, I would have personally blocked the same instances that they do but I'm wary of software that takes that decision away from me.
@redegelde @razorsoup I donโ€™t use Tusky so I donโ€™t know, sorry!
@razorsoup @BerLinguistin dont know, here also using the browser. Tusky does not have the admin options

@BerLinguistin Love @MetaText! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. But not on Android I believe ๐Ÿค”.

There I use @Tusky which is also great! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@BerLinguistin Metatext was my intro to 3rd party clients and now I have an addiction/problem with trying the ALL.
@amnesiacrobat What do you mean by โ€œtrying the ALLโ€? #Newbie here ๐Ÿ˜Š
@BerLinguistin @amnesiacrobat think it means trying *them* all ๐Ÿ˜‰
@asjmcguire @amnesiacrobat Ooohhh yes, of course ๐Ÿ˜… I thought the โ€œallโ€ was maybe a specific feature of the Fediverse ๐Ÿ™ˆ

@BerLinguistin @amnesiacrobat in a way it is. There is a community tab that only shows what people on the same server are talking about, and a fediverse (all servers) tab, which lets you see what everyone, everywhere (ish) is talking about....

So ALL is technically a fediverse thing ๐Ÿ˜‹

@BerLinguistin @asjmcguire yes it was a typo. Trying *them* all. My autocorrect gets overzealous the most with the/them and well/weโ€™ll

@amnesiacrobat @BerLinguistin not as bad as mine. People becomes prior and literally the only time I ever prior is when explaining to people that autocorrect does that.

About becomes s*it for some reason that I can't begin to understand, given that when you actually want to swear, autocorrect doesn't want you to (duck for example).

@asjmcguire @BerLinguistin yes, I too have not given a duck many times and really the only time I use ducking intentionally, it corrects to the other one :/ but some of those others are definitely weird.
@BerLinguistin @asjmcguire @amnesiacrobat tell me you use reddit without telling me you use reddit ... you must've been thinking of r/all huh? ๐Ÿ˜…

@BerLinguistin @amnesiacrobat I tried paid clients like "Mast" etc

Somewhat ironic that what I personally think is the best iOS client, the aforementioned #Metatext is free

I did fire up an old Android phone, and the #Tusky app is also very good

@jeff_povey @BerLinguistin I was worried about Metatext since it had gone so long without an update, but itโ€™s been updated in the last few days. I imagine all the press about Mastodon has gotten it some more attention from its dev, so thatโ€™s good. Itโ€™s the one Iโ€™m using the most.
@BerLinguistin ale, Metatext is cool. Also you can save the website as an icon on your Homescreen, itโ€™ll launch almost like an app.
@BerLinguistin the original mastodon Android app is actually quite efficient to my experience on it so far
@BerLinguistin just a reminder that metatask has halted their development it seems, so there can be security issues and lack of features in the future
@edendestroyer @BerLinguistin Metatext development has slowed, not halted, it would seem as there has been one app update since the announcement that the developer had moved to full-time work.
@BerLinguistin thanks for the tip. Definitely vouch for the better UI experience just after a few seconds on the app. Also the setup process was seamless!
@BerLinguistin Anyone else on iOS not getting the badges showing the notification count? Otherwise notifications and the app generally works great.
@joeystan @joeystan You have to change it in โ€œPreferencesโ€, โ€œShow boost and favorite countsโ€
@BerLinguistin
I've been waiting to see some recommendations for alternative clients to try - and along comes Metatext - Eval in progress!
@BerLinguistin Metatext isn't on android, but tusky is and it's pretty fabulous, at least for me!
@BerLinguistin I tried it this morning and it was super bugged, couldnโ€™t see anything on it. Anyone else?
@jocelyn No problem here, but it may depend on the server/instance?
@BerLinguistin turns out itโ€™s just the search function.
@BerLinguistin am I missing something, or is there no way to access Local and Federated timelines in the official app? And yeah Metatetxt feels instantly better and more feature-rich, but it hasnโ€™t been updated in 6 months.
@r2000 Iโ€™m rebooting because Iโ€™m also new here and cannot answer your question! Also, thanks for pointing out Metatext is not being updated atm.
@r2000 @BerLinguistin I think the local timeline is under the magnifying glass as โ€œcommunityโ€ but apparently the federated timeline is not in the official app. I had to google it, but apparently thatโ€™s intentional.
@BerLinguistin
Metatext is iOS only ๐Ÿ˜ญ
I'm trying Mastonaut and Metatext on MacOS - I can't find anything except the Mastodon app for Adroid - anyone able to suggest any??
@BrackHammers @BerLinguistin I'm seeing people suggest Tusky for Android. I'm using the Mastodon app and haven't had any major issues but since it's a time to try new things, I'll give Tusky a go too!

@aunticles @BerLinguistin

Aye - Tusky has been put on my radar. Seems to be a simpler experience which is what most people need at the start of this journey.

@BerLinguistin yes I like it better on Metatext.. the User Interface is friendlier
@BerLinguistin ooo, perhaps I'll install that on my iPad, so I can post art straight from there? :0
@ElfDa Go for it! ๐Ÿ˜
@BerLinguistin Iโ€™ve enjoyed using Tootle on iOS too! a wonderful, ultra-customizable theming and lay-out for the nerds who like to meticulously control the whole experience :)
@grant Thanks for the tip! ๐Ÿ™
@BerLinguistin The app is OK on android, but why is the search so awful?
@BerLinguistin - I prefer Toot! for IOS. It makes the process of switching between instances easy, plus it allows you to pin multiple hashtag searches for re-use.
@BerLinguistin Same here, Metatext it is for now.
@BerLinguistin Haha, oh wow. This is good. The iPad version works well so far in macOS on the M1 MacBook Air as well. Thanks!
@BerLinguistin I use Twidere on Android for Twitter, and it supports Mastodon too - you can have multiple accounts at the same time, but it does seem to show both "homes" in a single timeline, which I found confusing.
@BerLinguistin it got recommended to me yesterday, I will set it up just now.
@BerLinguistin I have installed #Tusky on Android. Delighted!
@BerLinguistin I totally prefer Metatext to both the Mastodon app and Tootle, both of which have (to me) annoying little quirks.
