Ich war heute der erste Referent zur Neueröffnung des #Volin in #Aachen. Als alte maskuline Hete durfte ich was zu Streik und Feminismus erzählen.

But what impressed me deeply: mein Gastgeber erzählte mir, dass er gleich nach Erscheinen von #WWPD das Buch gelesen hat und dann alle #StarTrek Serien durchgechaut hat. Das war die Absicht: nicht ein Buch zu schreiben, um Trekkies links zu machen, sondern im Linke zu motivieren, #StarTrek zu schauen.

Und ich behaupte immer, Bücher ändern nix...

Today in Labor History September 18, 1945: Russian anarchist Volin died of tuberculosis in Paris. He participated in both the Russian and Ukrainian Revolutions before the Bolsheviks forced him into exile. He also participated in the protests that culminated in Bloody Sunday (1905). During the ensuing strikes he led the creation of the first St. Petersburg Soviet. He criticized the October Revolution for bringing the Bolsheviks to power and then left for Ukraine, where he became an important figure and, eventually, Chairman of the Military Revolutionary Council, of the anarchist Makhnovshchina, a large enclave in Ukraine, lasting about 4 years, organized under anarcho-communist principles.

Today in Labor History August 11, 1882: Russian anarchist Volin (Vsevolod Mikhailovich Eikhenbaum) was born. He was forced into exile for his revolutionary activities during the 1905 Russian Revolution, for his participation in the Petersburg Soviet and the 1905 Kronstadt uprising that occurred in solidarity with the Peterburg Soviet. He returned during the 1917 revolution, where he criticized the Bolsheviks, before fleeing to Ukraine, where he became a leading figure in the autonomous, anarchist commune of Makhnovshchina. In 1920, the Cheka arrested him, with an execution order from Trotsky. Alexander Berkman, who had been deported to the USSR by the U.S., and writer Victor Serge, both appealed for his release. He was released later that year, then arrested again the following year, and deported, 1922, by Lenin. He lived the rest of his life in exile in time to France, where he died from tuberculosis, in 1945, after having successfully evaded arrest by the Nazis for his radical politics and his Jewish heritage.
