#introduction
I am a self taught programmer in mostly just #nodejs & #java right now but historically I have written code in #perl #php #python #tcl and just a little bit of #csharp #cpp and a very little bit of #C & #visualbasic .
In the past I have written a lot about offensive security, however after a years long hiatus I have shifted focus over to defensive security in regards to operating a #minecraft server, or network, which I write about on my #blog at https://www.xnite.me/ .
I actively develop and operate a Minecraft server database at https://www.breakblocks.com/ which has an active community of almost 1,300 members on #Discord at the time of this post.
I meant to write this introduction sooner but life sucker punched me in the face.. I'm not down for the count yet though!
Not new, but excellent article on the history of Visual Basic -
https://retool.com/visual-basic
My first paid gig after leaving college was coding VB, version 3 at the time. I carried on until just after VB6 was released, after which I switched to PHP and eventually sysadmin work.
VB was definitely not perfect, but it allowed people with little experience get a start in programming, and was at the same time robust enough for serious production applications.
The article fails to mention Delphi which was massively influenced by VB and sat between it and VC++. I almost transitioned to Delphi, something I think would have stood me in good stead for a few more years.
Arguably no language or IDE has managed to replace the ease of use and frankly fun of coding VB, warts and all.
Visual Basic was an awesome drag-and-drop app builder for early Windows. (If you wanna try, I recommend version 3.0 - works on Windows 3.x)
I've only learned as an adult that there was a DOS version of it, porting Windows apps' UI-UX into a text-based environment. I find these ASCII components and multi-window apps infinitely cool!
Below a few mins footage of me playing around with it.

I also decided to move Analysis in the page dedicated to my old programs. Analysis was a Windows 3.1 program I wrote between 1998-2002 and that could draw mathematical functions. It was mainly written in Visual Basic 3.0, with a DLL written in C that could parse functions: http://davbucci.chez-alice.fr/index.php?argument=retroc/oldp/oldp.inc
