Are there any experienced #manjaro users out there who can recommend a hassle-free solution for #hardwareaccelerated #videoplayback? I used https://nonfree.eu/ before, but it once broke my install after an update. Nothing too horrible but inconvenient nonetheless.

When playing videos hosted on my Nextcloud from the web GUI, videos stall and buffer like crazy in Firefox, but play smoothly in Chromium.

I have been having this playback issue for years and had learned to live with it. I only use Firefox Linux and had never tried with a Blink-based browser before, I have to say I am shocked.

I thought it was because the server (Hetzner VPS) and backend storage (Wasabi S3) are both in Germany and I am in Canada, but Chromium is proving me wrong.

Is there anything I can do to have smooth Nextcloud video playback in Firefox? Some magic Nginx setting? A video decoding library to install? An obscure Firefox flag?

Hey you bright minds out there. I got an issue here I can't get my mind wrapped around.

Since some time now when I am in Linux I can't play Mastodon videos within my browser. It always looks like what you can see on the screenshot. The only way it works is to right click it and play it with VLC.

Installed extensions are:
HTTPS Everywhere
Tab Session Manager
Video Speed Controller

Firefox Version 59.0.2 (on Debian / Testing)

Any idea what this might be about?
