nerfherderSuccessfully made 2m #ssb contacts with the #quansheng #uvk6 during today’s #pota. Contacts were roughly 20mi/32km, 15mi/24km, and 5mi/8km away. The person furthest away probably had the best antenna setup. Audio reports were poor. On my side, audio was “okay”, not great, and would go in and out. Distance was probably a factor for some of the poor audio, but it’s also a cheap HT with third party firmware. But it also works and is cheap!
I will be out tomorrow morning participating in “Support Your Parks” #POTA. The plan is #ft8 on the HF bands, 2m FM simplex, and 2m SSB (er, DSB) with the #quansheng #uvk6. And who knows, maybe other modes too. Also hoping for park-to-park #p2p. Looking forward to it!
Joined the #quansheng gang as of today. Plan is to start with #uvk5cec firmware. I have the #uvk6 ... looking forward to trying #SSB (er, #dsb) and digital modes.

Turn-around time is reduced from 140ms in FM mode to 80ms in DIG mode (stock firmware is 375ms).

#uvk6 with modified egzumer firmware and small hardware mod can cleanly TX 9600 baud GFSK and #m17 4-FSK using TNC4. Image shows GFSK reception via GQRX and #rtlsdr. Currently working on the more challenging RX side. #hamradio #UVK5

The difference between it and my other two, different case (a little slash of color)! And a different firmware that already has the radio opened up for 20 - 1000 Mhz.
Personally I think my original Anysecu UV-K5 works a lot better. But all three has the same FCCID number, which to me means they are all the same inside.
