Minisforum has started publishing firmware updates to LVFS! This is awesome, I had previously almost bricked my device attempting to update its firmware by hacking apart the windows files.

Oof, my poor little #Minisforum #UM780XTX mini PC spun its fan at rather high revs for ~12h sustained.
Why? Well, #ffmpeg, that's why! On an #AMD #Ryzen 7840HS #Radeon 780M RDNA3 APU + #Ubuntu #Linux.
Hardware accelerated -c:v hevc_vaapi puts an annoying green bar at the bottom, for some reason. (why … anyone?)
So, -c:v libx265 CPU-based software encoding it is, then.
~85°C for ~12 hours - shrunk the stash from AVC/152GB to HEVC/65GB (meh🧐)

The new v1.06 BIOS of the #Minisforum #UM780XTX has this strange new setting - ISO 3166-1 Alpha 2 code - it doesn't accept letters, and it's set to 16720

I bought myself a #minisforum #um780xtx which is #nuc sized #amd ryzen 7 7840hs based system to make my own #steammachine for our parents room. I'm running #bazzite on it and it's amazing. I was just playing spider-man and sonic on the couch.
Cost about the same as an #XBoxSeriesX but I know which one I'd rather. I don't know why #valve hasn't taken another stab at an official steam machine again?

Talisker ⏚Why do the #Realtek 8125 NICs in the #Minisforum #UM780XTX seemingly lack a MAC address, in a fresh install of Windows 10 pro?
EDIT: the diagnostic tool confirms it. I wonder, is this a Minisforum problem, or something else? Minisforum should have plenty experience, implementing Realtek NICs.
I've updated the BIOS and installed a fresh Windows, instead of using the old transplanted install.
I'm sure, this wouldn't have happened if they used Intel NICs.

Let's see what the little bugger does when stressed to the max.
Internal measurement says 70W, which translates to 113W at the wall (120W PSU). From the factory, it comes with a 65W power budget, but you can tickle 5 more Watts out of it via UEFI/BIOS settings.
Current ambient temp is 22.3°C, and it didn't exceed 83 - good enough - Tj max is 100-ish.
It runs GTA5 like champ - solid 1080p60 at high/very high settings, no MSAA though.
