Goldcrest - along with the closely-related Firecrest, this is the smallest bird in the British Isles. Not easy to photograph as they are often amongst dense vegetation & move quickly.

The ladybirds are out in force today. Think they are looking for places to hibernate. Counted 14 in my bathroom. #ukwildlife
A Buzzard in a field near Stoney Littleton, a short drive from Bath, hunting for earthworms. Yep, Buzzards love eating worms, they take far less effort than catching a rabbit.

A very worn Small Tortoiseshell butterfly, seen near Stoney Littleton, near Bath.

This butterfly species has declined by 86% since 1976, and over the past few years has become worryingly scarce. The reasons are uncertain. Its food plant is Common Nettle, which is still extremely common. Possibilities include a parasitoid fly Sturmia bella and climate change.
