Juvenile house sparrow.

This young bird only stopped on the branch for a fraction of a second. I'd been watching them and their family for a while, trying to get a clear shot, but they kept moving around, trying to stay out of sight.

I used to see house sparrows all the time, but their numbers have dropped considerably in the time I've been birdwatching.

Back in April we visited Mayday Farm, it’s near Brandon and right in the middle of a big pine forest.

There’s a tiny pond hidden at the base of a tree, it’s got a liner and it’s about 2m wide. It’s popular with photographers as lots of birds come in to drink and bathe.

The first of two lifers I saw was this Crossbill.
