3/ Die Alternative zur lounge wurde dann ein neues Buch (gut!) im Lüftungslärm- und Kassenpiepsen (beides schlecht!) durchdrungenen Eingangsbereich eines Bahnhof-Supermarkts/Gastrobereichs mit einem Stück lauwarmer Pizza (naja!). So, jetzt aber zum #Nachtzug! #Bahnreisen #TrainTravelEurope

Been a while since I was last on this SJ nattåg. I do the ferries more often between Germany and Sweden.
Compared to the #EuropeanSleeper I was supposed to be on last night, this Euronight compartment feels newer, but much more cramped. (I ride Berlin–Brussels/Rotterdam overnight quite frequently now when #NotFlying between Wales and Sweden.)
That's a sink, btw, not a toilet for exhibitionists.

The highlight of my very brief wander round #Köln (an hour between trains) was going to be the ambulances, whose sirens smoothly change key on approach to traffic lights. No idea if that's automatic, or if the copilot was in a 90s boy band.

But then I refound Stövchen, a proper old school cafe. Plants, books, old furniture, old regular customers, two brothers behind the bar. And vegetarian sauerkrautsuppe with a beer for €10.

Europeans would be shocked that your bags are weighed on #ViaRail before you board. And that there's bag limits (2), with size and weight limits. Two things I've never experienced train traveling across europe. #traintraveleurope #traintravel

Voilà, 1620km à vol d'oiseau, faits en 55 heures 30 (et deux nuits d'hôtel), au lieu de 30 heures (et une nuit de voyage) si cela avait fonctionné comme annoncé.

C'était une expérience... enrichissante

We were joined by someone from India, who had no idea what scouting was. So we explained the movement and I think there is a fair chance he's going to get his daughter to check it out now 🥲

4th train of the day due in 10 minutes! But there are so many notices on the timetable that I doubt it will be anything like on time... wish me luck, internet!
