@[email protected] @[email protected] I'd ask @[email protected] about crossing by train from France to Spain and then Portugal. There used to be a number of lines that closed down over the last decade so I'm out of date. Also maybe @[email protected] can sell you the ticket via his website https://www.12train.com Or also @[email protected] from https://www.railfinder.eu Do try these websites.

Most people in Austria, me included, still think Italian trains are always delayed and generally unreliable. So far, none of this has proven right. Our train is on time and tickets were so cheap we opted for Business class, which is very spacious. We got complimentary snacks and a bottle of water. Also, Frecciarossa travels faster than any train in Austria.
Let's see if the regional train we take next is also living up to this new standard.

CER Ticketing Roadmap – 4th progress report

In the midst of the unfolding political struggle here in 🇫🇷 (yes, the worst can still be avoided!), I am taking off for another quick #EuropeByTrain "adventure", for work meetings on the Baltic Sea coast.

First leg by bus, unfortunately, and equipped in a slightly different way this time. I hope to be able to show that low-carbon long-distance travel is possible and will try to offer some views and #TrainTravelHacks along the way.

The plan is to travel 3523 km with 15 trains.

On my way back from an interesting #WBF2024 with the wonderful #RhätischeBahn through #Graubünden. Now heading towards Lake Constance with #SBB. Let’s see how the connections then in Germany will be with #DeutscheBahn.

On my way to the World Biodiversity Forum in Davos. Bus was in time and the first of my six trains, as well. There would have been a quicker way, had the floods two weeks ago not damaged the track north of Lake Constance.

The ICE #train that I'm on from Austria to Western Germany (on the way back from a conference) was blocked for a few minutes in Augsburg: too many people had boarded and the train conductor was not allowed to launch the departure for security reasons.
I think he's alone to manage a train of 6 cars (but many people).

It looks like this is one of the only trains on this route not cancelled today after heavy raining in South Germany.

A little 🧵 on a week long trip through Europe

This morning early departure from Valence TGV for another work-related #noflying journey around a large swath of Europe, including #Stockholm. Estimated distance 6481 km in only 10 trains, including 2 night-trains.

Perfectly on-time, train fully booked. Actually looking forward to what should be, for the first leg, about 26 hours in trains from here.

(had to do the first 76km by car, since on Sundays we have no early TER)

Voilà, 1620km à vol d'oiseau, faits en 55 heures 30 (et deux nuits d'hôtel), au lieu de 30 heures (et une nuit de voyage) si cela avait fonctionné comme annoncé.

C'était une expérience... enrichissante
