Shocking to read that Tassal has had a major fish-kill at its barramundi farm in the remote Buccaneer Archipelago/Cone Bay region of WA while simultaneously pushing ahead with plans to ramp up production. 
What concerns me deeply is this expansion ambition — from roughly 2 000 tonnes a year to potentially 17 500 tonnes — in a glob­ally significant and delicate marine ecosystem. 
The story doesn’t revisit the wider track‐record of salmon-farm related mortality and ecosystem impacts, yet the parallels are painfully obvious. We should be asking: are we repeating history rather than learning from it?

#Salmon from #SalmonFarming was one of my staples. I used to spring for the more expensive Superior Gold smoked salmon, and I'd eat a couple of slivers most days. Then #Tassal smeared their branding all over it, perhaps hoping it would elevate Tassal.

Nope, just destroyed what had looked like an independent higher quality product.

So now, like a lot of people, I dont eat #Tasmanian Salmon.

Trying to find a smoked salmon that is ethically produced, and heavily smoked so its not gelatinous.

#Tassal Tasmanian Salmon says #sustainability is at their heart - yet they are happy to shoot protected seals to protect their farming profits! Does that sound like a company who cares about being #sustainable?
