The New Eves is a band that conjures up a series of references all at once. They are a four-piece from Brighton, armed with an unusual set of instrumentation (cello, violin, flute) on top of the standard guitar oriented line-up. Their sound merges Velvet Underground textures with freak folk overtones stitched together with various post-punk threads. There is spoken poetry in their music that hits with a Patti Smith type verve and a presentation that comes with a theatrical flair. There are sudden tempo changes, angular tunes battling with drones then breaking into segments of dissonance dissolving into pure noise just to get interrupted by moments of chamber music serenity. Imagination runs wild with this band, front to back.
Working off of their hill country inspired blues base, Lonesome Shack has been steadily expanding its sound to include boogie, blues rock, traditional folk, and roots music over the years.

Lonesome Shack is a blues trio led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Ben Todd, who though originally from Seattle, spent years in New Mexico living in the titular shack, soaking up old southern blues records in the bright desert sun. The end result is a mixture of styles with a stripped down sound that borrows a lot from hill country blues, but also remains partial to boogie and blues rock, with a touch of roots music thrown in there. The band expanded into a traditional folk sound with a faint indie layer on top in the '20s. Todd has quite a presence up front with a distinct voice and exciting guitar work, while bassist Luke Bergman guides the trio with a solid pulse and drummer Kristian Garrard keeps their sound dry and grounded.

The terms "trippy" and "psychedelic" would not do justice to the music created by Japanese band Acid Mothers Temple since the mid '90s (full name: Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O., where UFO stands for Underground Freak Out). Formed and led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto, the band has gone through a series of line-up changes while also being wildly prolific both in the studio and as a live band. Their music is many things alongside psychedelic: it is chaotic, noisy, fragmented, avant-garde, and ultimately, challenging. They are sweet and melodic one moment, aggressively atonal the next, often both at the same time. The band continues to put out albums with some regularity, each release an unpredictable package. Some of their albums are tributes to great bands and artists that came before, ranging from Captain Beefheart to Miles Davis to Black Sabbath, each one just as fascinating as their regular body of work. This band is a deep well, for sure.
Producer and multi-instrumentalist DjRUM gradually moved away from his EDM roots to embrace an ambient style of electronic music that occasionally flirts with the post-classical sound.

Felix Manuel, who performs as DjRUM (previously DJ RUM) is a producer and multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, harp) who is a versatile artist whose work expands through a wide stylistic range. A lot of his work is in some form of Electronic/EDM format, mixing elements of house, techno, jungle, and dubstep, which was especially the case in his early work. 2018's Portrait With Firewood was where he expanded his reach by incorporating other, more contemplative tones into his music, including ambient textures, an experimental electronic approach, and increasingly, post-classical elements. The result was a stylistic leap forward that led to a distinctive, more progressive sound, which was only further enhanced and more fully integrated on his follow-up, Under Tangled Silence, came out in 2025 after some gap.
Long Island based Arcy Drive's appeal comes from the relaxed and sunny sound they bring to alt-rock, plus their strong melodies, charming delivery, and knack for nailing that warm throwback feel.

Arcy Drive is an indie band based in Long Island, NY whose music, though not entirely bubbly, still comes pretty close to it with its upbeat, sunny stroke and an almost weightless flow. Their songs are melodically strong and pack quite a sense of fun that can be hard to resist. This is no doubt bolstered by the band's ability to keep it light on its feet and frontman Nick Mateyunas' presence oozing with charm. They ride an alternative rock wave in terms of their sound in the way they check all the major boxes when it comes to the guitars and their interaction, as well as how the beats are set up. There may be a little throwback quality to their music, but given how well they handle their parts as an ensemble, that turns out to be a plus.

Hotline TNT is a band that brings the Sebadoh style classic grunge sound into the contemporary shoegaze sound, or maybe it is the other way around. Either way, the result is a mixture between that familiar wall of distortion effect and melodic alt-rock riffs with aggressive accents that maintain a nice balance as their old school hooks and indie rock rhythms peer through the shoegaze veil. Plus, the band brought in a power pop component to their 2025 album Raspberry Moon, which complements all that angst that comes with the cocktail of styles they present. Their songs are melodically sturdy, the band ably navigates the shifts within and across these styles with well-earned confidence.
